Using one of the department’s Gator vehicles, patrols will cover the trail from Middlebury Road to Brittain Road on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 5:30–7:00 PM (weather permitting).

Along with patrolling the trail, they will also be handing out freebies for adults, kids, and even pups! 🐶

National Police Week: May 10 through May 16, 2026

This week, you may notice our officers wearing mourning bands over their badges. On Thursday, our department flag will fly at half-staff.

These solemn symbols mark National Police Week, observed in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, a day established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 to recognize the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the nation.

This week, we pause, not just to remember names on a wall, but the lives behind the badge.

Each fallen officer was someone’s everything: a father who never missed a game, a daughter who dreamed of making her city safer, a friend whose laugh could light up a room. They ran toward danger when others ran away, not for glory, but out of duty, love, and an unshakable promise to protect.

Their sacrifice was not just brave, it was forever. And we owe them more than silence.

Let us remember. Let us honor. Let us never forget.

Chief Douglas Bohon
