TCAC will be at the Leon County Commission Meeting tomorrow, April 14th, 2026, at 6:00 PM to demand that the Leon County Sheriff's Office release the body cam footage of the death of Keith Lee! Meet us at 301 South Monroe Street and help us fight for accountability!

On March 31st, 2026, we submitted a request for all files relating to the death of Keith Lee, who was tased by LCSO officers before dying in custody. The request was approved, and paid for, but now LCSO is saying that “this case was closed by accident” and is refusing to release the files because it is an “active investigation.” How can we trust an investigation they “accidentally closed?” We demand justice for Keith Lee and full transparency in the investigation!

On March 24th, 2026, Leon County Sheriff’s Officers arrived at a call for medical assistance. Officers then encountered Keith Lee, who based upon the limited information released by LCSO was likely going through a mental health crisis. Rather than deescalate or seek the help of a mental health professional, the interaction ended when LCSO tased Keith Lee and took him into custody. Shortly after he was tased, Lee became unresponsive and later died. In the week since, LCSO has released no additional details on his death. This lack of transparency is intentional. Death’s in custody are increasingly common with LCSO, and the people demand answers! LCSO needs to release the body cam footage and all details of their investigation!
