Student Alumni Association at FSU

Student Alumni Association at FSU Students Today. Alumni Tomorrow. Seminoles Forever. Both served as SAA’s first Advisors to the program. In an effort to build the program at Florida State, Mr.

The FSU Student Alumni Association (SAA) was founded in 1979 by Ron Hill, of the Dean of Students Office, and Meredith Smith, of the FSU Foundation, Inc. SAA was originally founded by the name of the Student Alumni Foundation, or SAF. Hill and Ms. Smith took those students interested in SAF on a trip to Indiana University to visit their Student Alumni Association. This visit was the starting poin

t for the FSU SAF. After a few years, the FSU Foundation felt the SAF could grow further under new leadership, and consequently, the SAF moved under the guidance of the FSU Alumni Association. Associate Director of the FSU Alumni Association, Phil Barco ‘76, then became the new Advisor. In 1992, SAF formally changed its name to the Student Alumni Association (SAA).

Learn about the Sod Cemetery with the Student Alumni Association. Located outside Doak Campbell Stadium, it honors big away-game wins where FSU brings home a piece of the field. A simple tradition with a powerful story!🌱

Today we honor the life and legacy of our FSU’s first Homecoming Queen—a trailblazer whose grace, leadership, and spirit helped shape the traditions of homecoming we carry forward today. Her impact will always be a part of our story, and her memory will continue to inspire generations of students to come.

We extend our deepest condolences to her loved ones and all who were touched by her remarkable life.

A special thank you to Mike Pate (B.S ‘68) and Judy Pate (BME ‘67) for hosting our most recent Dinner with Seven Seminoles event. As students, both Mike and Judy were members of the Marching Chiefs, so they were so excited to host current Marching Chief students and share their stories from their time at FSU while hearing about what campus is like today. The Pates are lifelong supporters of FSU, volunteering their time, establishing scholarships, and giving back in many ways to the university. We are so grateful to the Pates for hosting.
