Leaders from the DJJ Office of Detention Services proudly gathered in Orlando for the 5th Annual Detention Services Leadership Retreat. Representatives from all 21 secure detention facilities came together to explore collective goals, succession planning, detention initiatives, and accountability in action. The retreat provided an opportunity for team building, strengthening relationships, and celebrating one united detention services team!

Today, we pause and remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost 25 years ago on September 11, 2001, a day that changed our nation forever. We honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call to serve in the aftermath.

Youth from AMIKids Polk recently participated in a hands-on gardening project focused on improving and maintaining the program's garden while building teamwork, responsibility, and healthy leisure skills. The activity encouraged youth to take pride in what they create and recognize that positive environments, healthy choices, and working together can lead to meaningful growth and success.

To strengthen collaboration between law enforcement and juvenile probation, DJJ Circuit 8 Probation leadership recently met with the Gainesville Police Department to discuss electronic monitoring, prearrest delinquency citations, and available youth diversion resources. The officers were engaged and asked thoughtful questions, reinforcing the value of these partnerships in promoting public safety and positive outcomes for the community.

Students at Walton Academy for Growth and Change, a residential program for males operated by Rite of Passage, recently completed forklift operator training, resulting in 10 youth obtaining their certifications! During the training, the youth learned safety procedures, completed pre-operation checks, and practiced supervised forklift operation.

This month, we are celebrating the success of several youth who have earned industry-recognized credentials through the Florida Youth College! In partnership with BDI Datalynk, 35 students earned broadband fiber-optic certifications, which will help lead to careers in one of the nation's fastest-growing industries. Seven students also completed the Future Ready with Information Technology program, sharpening the workplace skills employers value most and taking another important step toward career success.
