This issue, we're diving into the history of two of Tallahassee's most beloved neighborhoods: the Calhoun Street Historic District and the Park Avenue Historic District. Learn how these historic designations came to be, explore the Chain of Parks as a public commons, and discover the story of the famous May Oak that once stood in Lewis Park.

We love a blast from the past! Mr. Tim Roberts, the previous owner of our beloved Historic J.T. Perkins House, recently sent us a July/August 1996 edition of Tallahassee Magazine in which the Perkins House is the focus! He also sent a very lovely note sharing how our predecessor, the Historic Tallahassee Preservation Board, helped him rehabilitate the property! We were so happy to see this (admittedly recent) piece of history!

If you saw our January newsletter, you're in the know! This month starts off our monthly Archive Open House at the Historic J. T. Perkins House! Tomorrow, Tuesday February 24th, from 5:00pm-7:00pm, we will have an amazing selection from our TTHP Archive for everyone to come in to enjoy! Feel free to stop by, even just for a few minutes on your way home from work. We are so excited to share our Archive with you all!

We're so proud of Chris Carlberg!!🎉

Chris Carlberg – Ph.D. student in FSU’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) and two-time FSU alumnus – was announced as a 2026 Community Catalyst with the Knight Creative Community Institute (KCCI) in Tallahassee, FL.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to enhance the sense of place in these Tallahassee neighborhoods, especially around schools,” Carlberg said. “Being able to bridge my passion for planning, placemaking, and urban design with enhancing the lives of young people in these neighborhoods feels very full circle for me.”
