TFD was proud to host our biannual Lunch & Learn last week, bringing together fire protection professionals, vendors, inspectors, and fire service personnel for continued education and industry updates.

The event, hosted by the Florida Fire Sprinkler Association, gave attendees the opportunity to earn CEUs, learn from industry representatives, and stay informed on fire sprinkler systems, prevention practices, Florida statutes, NFPA codes, and issues impacting the fire protection industry.

Opportunities like this help our Prevention Division stay connected, compliant, and up to date while strengthening relationships with the partners and professionals who support fire safety across our community and state.

Thank you to FFSA for providing this free training and lunch, and to the vendors and presenters who helped make the event possible, including , , Summit Fire & Security, and others.

Any Florida fire department, inspector, sprinkler vendor, or fire protection professional interested in getting involved or learning more about future free training opportunities can contact Fire Lieutenant Ashley Hancock in TFD’s Prevention Division at [email protected].

🔥 Flashback Fire Friday 🔥

On November 2, 1962, TFD firefighters responded to a tanker truck fire at McKenzie Tank Lines Inc. on Appleyard Drive. The blaze broke out in a pine oil tanker, but thanks to quick action by fire crews, the fire was contained to the tanker itself. While several tires were damaged, overall losses were estimated at just a few hundred dollars.

Girls Week at Fully Committed Summer Camp has been a blast! 🚒☀️

The first two days were packed with lots of fun and learning. Campers met the Chiefs, toured Station 4, learned basic first aid, and got hands on with the car fire prop.

They also fished with our City of Tallahassee Police Department friends at Badges & Bobbers, took on team-building activities, and put their skills to the test on the challenge course at the FSU Rez.

Lots of learning, teamwork, and fun so far.

With profound sadness, the Tallahassee Fire Department honors and remembers Engineer Charles “Chuck” Droessler, whose End of Watch was today, June 8, 2026.

Engineer Droessler served the Tallahassee Fire Department and our community with dedication, courage, and pride from August 14, 2015, until his passing. His commitment to the fire service, his fellow firefighters, and the citizens of Tallahassee left a lasting impact that will not be forgotten.

Please keep Chuck’s family, friends, and his TFD brothers and sisters in your thoughts during this difficult time. We are grateful for his service, his friendship, and the legacy he leaves behind.

Rest easy, Engineer Droessler. We’ll take it from here.

We remember our fallen firefighters.

Thinking about becoming a firefighter one day? 🚒

Our TFD Cadet Meet & Greet is TOMORROW!

Come connect with the next generation of firefighters, meet our Cadets, and learn what the program is all about. Families will have the chance to ask questions, see the hands-on experience Cadets are gaining, and learn how to take that first step toward the fire service.

And yes - Kona Ice will still be there 🍧

We hope to see you there.

🔥 Flashback Fire Friday 🔥

On the evening of October 20, 1944, at 5:50 p.m., the alarm sounded for a fire at Griffin Middle School, a historically Black school located at 800 Alabama Street. The school sat atop a hill west of the current middle school. While details of the fire’s cause and damage remain unclear, the building stood for another decade before being torn down in 1954 when the existing school was constructed at the bottom of the hill.

This moment in history highlights TFD’s long-standing service to Tallahassee’s schools and communities.
