ACTION ALERT -

On Friday, June 17th the Florida Agency on Health Care Administration (ACHA) published a "Notice of Proposed Rule 59G - 1.050" which denies life-saving, science-based gender affirming care to over 9,000 transgender and/or gender non-conforming Medicaid recipients in Florida. This rule is a direct response to a DeSantis Administrative hateful plot to gain votes by killing and torturing transgender people and part of his overall effort to wipe transgender people from existence in Florida. Show him that his discriminatory tactics won't work.

Please take a moment today and click the image to send an email and tell ACHA to block this life-threatening rule.

URGENT ACTION: Call-in January 27th or Today

Florida has no regulatory statute that guarantees lead-free clean drinking water for our children in public schools. In fact, most of the school districts in the state don’t even test school water for toxins. This year only we have federal funds to pay for putting filters and drinking stations in all our schools to STOP POISONING OUR CHILDREN.

We need you to call the Chair of the Florida House Early Learning and Elementary Education Committee (Rep. Vance Aloupis at 850-717-5115 ) and the Chair of the Senate Education Committee (Senator Joe Gruters at 850-487-5023) and ask them to put the Drinking Water in Public Schools bill on the agenda in their committee and save our children!

URGENT ACTION (Click Link to send Emails) - Help Save Rooftop Solar in Florida

SB 1024 Net-metering (Bradley) is being heard on Tuesday, Jan. 11th at 4:00 pm ET in its first committee assignment, Senate Regulated Industries committee. Physicians for Social Responsibility Florida needs you to send the committee members an email and ask them to VOTE NO on SB 1024 and save rooftop solar in Florida.

Net metering allows utility customers to connect solar panels to the electric grid and get credit on their electric for the energy they capture that goes back into the grid. This bill, written by Florida Power and Light, codifies anti-solar utility language and promotes the continued use of toxic fossil fuels as a source of energy. It will cause the loss of thousands of solar jobs across the state and cut out billions that could be created in economic development. The bill will reduce the amount that utilities companies must pay to solar customers who generate solar energy and all but ban the promotion of rooftop solar in Florida by imposing new charges, fees, and minimum bills on solar customers. The continued use of dirty fossil fuels as energy sources creates a myriad of health problems from lung and heart disease to early death.

Please click below to send an email today and let Florida Senators in the Regulated Industries Committee know that we want them to VOTE NO on SB 1024 and vote yes for clean energy and public health.

Send an Email - Tell FL Legislative Leadership to Protect Public Health and Block the Governor's Special Session Agenda:

As of November 10th, 2021 Florida has had 3.3 million COVID-19 cases and 60, 418 people have died. In 2020, Governor Ron DeSantis maintained executive rule in a state of emergency and never once asked for a special session of the legislature. In early November of 2021 he called for a special session. Not to discuss the housing and homeless crisis. Not to address the public healthcare emergency. Not to discuss Florida’s high rates of COVID-19 infection and death. Not to address the complete failure of the unemployment system. No. He has called for a Special Session to contradict federal law and mainstream science by pushing bills that ban vaccines, work safety measures, and masks. His proposed legislation will fine small businesses $10,000 per person for a vaccine mandate and large corporations $50,000 in a time when people are desperate for job security.

CLICK to SEND AN EMAIL to legislative leadership and leadership in the Governor’s Cabinet and tell them to block this harmful legislation and protect all people in Florida.

“Emily Denise Gray is a trans woman from Bay County.

“We don’t just wake up one day and say, ‘hey you know what would be fun, let me just lose half of my family and friends and see if I get murdered.’ You just don’t do that,” she said. “All to play on a female’s sports team and maybe get a scholarship? That’s silly. No one does that.”

Florida’s transgender athlete ban was revived and passed by both chambers late Wednesday as an amendment to a different bill.

Florida PAC - The People’s Place

Florida People’s Advocacy Center was founded in 2017 by the Florida Center for Fiscal and Economic Policy. We are a 42 room facility located one mile from Florida’s Capitol in the heart of Frenchtown, Tallahassee’s oldest black historic district. We work with directly impacted grassroots organizing groups like the Florida Immigrant Coalition, Florida Latina Advocacy Network, Dream Defenders, Florida Student Power Network, Campaign for Prison Reform and Florida Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls in order to 1) provide a safe 42 room space for overnight housing close to the Capitol where organizing groups can come sleep, eat and use the conference room at little to no cost, 2) provide training on state legislative policy and organizing to facilitate and help elevate state level organizing around education, immigration economic justice, social justice and racial justice issues, 3) facilitate direct connection and develop outreach between policy makers and those most affected by policy decisions and 4) develop statewide organizing efforts around immigration, education, LGBTQ, social justice, economic justice and racial justice issues.
