Lunch and Learn: In-Person Presentation: Empowering Citizen Scientists/Participatory GIS Apps with Mike Core!

When: July 19, 2024 - 12pm-1pm
Where: The Institute of Human Cognition, 40 S. Alcaniz Street, Pensacola, FL 32502

Mr. Mike Core is an application developer and designer for the Florida Resources and Environmental Analysis Center (FREAC) through FSU and will discuss using various GIS applications.

Lunch is provided by Apple Market at $13 per person. The deadline for registering and paying for the above food option will be at 5 PM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

🌍 Trainings from the US National Grid Institute! 🌎

Exciting Training Week Ahead for FL-TF4! 🚒🗺️

This week, Florida Task Force 4 (FL-TF4) will conduct essential training sessions on the US National Grid (USNG) and SARCOP software!

Who is FL-TF4?
FL-TF4 is a state-asset Urban Search and Rescue team based in Central Florida, with notable recent deployments to Hurricanes Ian and Idalia and the Chaplain Towers collapse in Surfside, FL. Training like this is crucial for maintaining team readiness and effectiveness.

Training Schedule:

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: Comprehensive training sessions will be held daily, ensuring that all team members, regardless of their shift (A, B, or C), can attend and benefit.
Key Highlights:

Tuesday: USNG training will be led by Al Studt, a USNGI Board member, founding member of TF4, and long-time USNG advocate. Al will also conduct a train-the-trainer session for the trainers who will continue the training for the rest of the week.
Wednesday and Thursday: Continued training on the US National Grid and SARCOP software. SARCOP is a powerful platform to share critical information across all levels of incident response, assisting in rescue operations and saving lives.
Join us in recognizing the dedication of our FL-TF4 team as they continue to enhance their skills and readiness to respond to emergencies. This training is not only vital but also tailored to accommodate the demanding schedules of our brave firefighters. 🚒💪

It’s time to reserve your spot in the 2024 FGA Summer Workshop for K-12 Teachers!

Our theme this year is:

Celebrating Milestones: Understanding Florida’s History and Geography

Join us for a 4-day Summer Workshop for K-12 teachers and Media Specialists, held at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. Our theme “Celebrating Milestones” will focus on creating your own Milestone Project, and exploring one of our local milestones as an example: Tallahassee’s Bicentennial Anniversary! We will experience the history of Tallahassee through field trips to The Grove, The State Archives and Library, and a walking tour of the Old City Cemetery. ArcGIS StoryMaps will be utilized as a presentation for the history and geography materials collected, where you can learn how to use the platform to create your own project.

The details of the Workshop are as follows:

Date: Sunday, June 23, 2024 - Wednesday, June 26, 2024
Location: Florida State University, UC6140 University Center, Tallahassee, Florida 32306

Time: Begins with a Meet and Greet at 6pm EST on Sunday, June 23, 2024, and ends Wednesday afternoon (a detailed schedule will be available soon!).

We provide: A double occupancy hotel room (if you are coming with a friend and want to room together, just let us know!), meals, tours, materials, and a $250 stipend to cover travel expenses.

Who is invited: Any K-12 teacher/media specialist is welcome, and we encourage pairs of teachers who can work together to attend, although it is not necessary in order to participate.
