📚🐾 Back to school is a great time for new lessons and unforgettable experiences! The Tomoka CI K9 Team recently visited Freedom Elementary School to teach students about the important role bloodhounds play in law enforcement. The students learned how these specially trained dogs use their incredible sense of smell to track and help locate missing people.

The highlight of the visit was meeting K9 Bella and giving her plenty of well-deserved attention.

On National Police K9 Day, the Florida Department of Corrections honors our courageous K9 teams and their dedicated handlers who work every day to keep our facilities and communities safe.

We’re grateful for their loyalty, service, and commitment. 🐾

On August 31, 1982, Probation Supervisor Bjorn Thomas Svenson made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty after being ambushed and shot by a parolee in Miami, FL.

Today, FDC remembers and honors his courage, service, and sacrifice.

Acting on a tip, Trenton Probation Officers collaborated with the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office to conduct a planned search, successfully recovering an illegal firearm, loaded magazine, ammunition, and alcohol.

The strong partnership resulted in the offender being arrested for violating their probation. Great work by all upholding public safety in Florida’s local communities!

On August 28, 2021, Correctional Officer Trainee Whitney Nicole Cloud’s life tragically ended while training at Wakulla CI.

Today, FDC remembers and honors her sacrifice and service.

After an offender posted content depicting illegal guns, our Circuit 13 SOTEC team, in partnership with the County Sheriff's Office, conducted a compliance check and uncovered a cache of fi****ms, ammunition, conversion devices, and ma*****na plants.

FDC is proud of our team for holding offenders accountable and keeping illegal weapons out of our communities.

Captain L. Fowler’s quick thinking and decisive actions helped save an inmate’s life. During a recent shift at Everglades Re-Entry, Cpt. Fowler responded to a call of an unresponsive inmate and while waiting for medical to arrive, heroically performed CPR until they were resuscitated.

Her courage, compassion, and selfless service embody FDC’s core values.
