This past Tuesday, Class 15 graduated! Hella Spellman who created this program with Leadership Tallahassee gave an inspiring speech, TasteBudz catered a delicious meal, and of course we had cake!

TALL Class 15 completed their final program day, Environment and Sustainability with Mark Tancig at the UF/IFAS Extension Office this past Tuesday.

Presenters from Red Hills Small Farm Alliance and Leon County stressed the importance of supporting local farmers and discussed sustainability and water quality initiatives.

The day concluded with an informative walking tour of the Florida Friendly Landscaping Program. Thank you, Mark, for creating an informative and interactive day for Class 15!

Class 15 explored Human Services Day last week with our very own Sarah Vernon as program chair!

Class 15 toured Second Harvest of the Big Bend, learned about Good News Outreach and Refuge House, then were treated to lunch by ReFire: Culinary with a Conscience.

The last stop of the day was touring Independence Landing where they met Terri Harmon and Terry Bishop to learn about the wonderful services they provide.

Class 15 explored Arts & Culture with Program Chair, Kelly Goddard. Amanda Karioth Thompson of AKT Artful led our group on an educational Art Walk down FAMU Way, always a favorite activity! Next they toured the Historic Capitol Museum and the FSU Museum of Fine Arts. The day ended with Debra Amesqua and Danny Goddard, creators of handmade mandolins and guitars at their Lake Ella studio.

TALL's Class 15 spent the day learning about Public Safety. They had lunch with the Chiefs, toured the traffic room, Consolidated Dispatch Agency, Leon County EMS, and the Tallahassee Fire Department. A fun day with our fabulous first responders!

Thanks to TALL Class 14 alumnus for creating a fun and informative agenda for Business and Economic Development Day! Class 15 enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of the Tallahassee International Airport's new wing. Next they toured FSU's new College of Business building. Alissa Costabile from FSU's IGNITE Program provided swag bags. Keith Bowers & Rocky Hanna were guest speakers during a yummy lunch at Little Athens.

Class 15 then toured the DOMI Station and The Monroe Restaurant & Distillery. And two participants enjoyed a short pedicab ride from Capital City Pedicabs!

Last Tuesday, Kristy Carter planned a great Health and Wellness Day for Class 15, visiting the Leon County Health Department, toured the Nancy van Vessem Center at CHP, had a fabulous lunch presentation by CHP's Dr. Cielo Rose, FSU ACTS 2, and FSU's Anxiety and Behavior Clinic, and LifeQuest. They ended the day with a tour of Sweat Therapy.

Tallahassee Active Lifelong Leaders (TALL) provides an opportunity for area seniors to enhance positive change in the community through advocacy and volunteerism. Patterned after the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Tallahassee program, TALL brings seniors a unique opportunity to get an up-close look at the many different facets of our community.

If you have a desire to be engaged in the community, we invite you to apply. TALL class members will meet on Tuesdays for eight weeks starting in January.

Through onsite visits and interactive activities with area leaders, class members gain valuable insights into how a community functions and the many challenges involved. Each day focuses on a different topic and offers participants the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the community’s cultural, political, safety, legal & justice, educational, health, human service, and other public services or public-private initiatives.
