Florida College Democrats honors the legacy of those who were brutally attacked during Bloody Sunday on March 7, 1965. Over 600 marchers were brutalized by police in Selma, Alabama on the Edmund Pettus Bridge as they marched for voting rights.

FCD remembers the legacy of activist Jimmie Lee Jackson, who’s death at the hands of police brutality served as a spark for the demonstrations in Selma that culminated in Bloody Sunday and the eventual March from Selma to Montgomery. Jimmie Lee Jackson was a Vietnam War veteran, a deacon, and a community activist who gave his life fighting for the cause of civil rights.

We call on Congress to honor the legacy of those who marched on Bloody Sunday and pass federal voting rights legislation. The Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act will protect the rights of Americans everywhere who seek to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
