Today, we pause to remember and honor Officer Clifford Crouch and the lasting impact he made through a life dedicated to service.

Officer Crouch dedicated 12 years of his life to law enforcement, serving six years with the Baton Rouge Police Department before joining the Tallahassee Police Department, where he served our community with honor for six years. Throughout his career, Officer Crouch was committed to protecting others, supporting his fellow officers and serving the communities he called home.

His service and impact on the TPD family have not been forgotten. We continue to honor his memory and keep his family, friends and fellow officers in our thoughts and prayers.

Rest easy, Officer Crouch. You are forever part of the TPD family.

A future rock legend, a stolen police helmet and a Tallahassee arrest.

The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) has arrested 18-year-old Jeray Ellis Jr. following an extensive investigation into the May 24 shooting at a parking garage located at 411 Chapel Drive. The shooting resulted in the death of 18-year-old Gavin Yates-Lyons and injured two others.

The investigation began just before 5 a.m. on May 24, when officers heard gunfire coming from the area of Chapel Drive and Call Street. Upon arrival, officers located multiple areas of the parking garage where there was evidence that a shooting had occurred. Three victims injured in the shooting were transported to a local hospital. One of the victims, Yates-Lyons, sustained life-threatening injuries and sadly succumbed to his injuries on May 30. The other injured victims were treated and released.

TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit conducted a thorough investigation, reviewing physical and digital evidence and conducting numerous interviews. The investigation determined multiple groups were gathered at the parking garage for an unsanctioned pop-up party when gunfire erupted on several floors. Evidence indicates Yates-Lyons had just arrived at the parking garage when the shooting began and was struck by gunfire while attempting to leave the area. Ellis, believing the vehicle was occupied by the person he was targeting, fired at it.

“Cases like this require patience, persistence and attention to detail,” said Chief Lawrence Revell. “This arrest is the result of months of diligent investigative work and our detectives’ commitment to finding answers for the victims and their families. While an arrest cannot undo the loss experienced by a family, we hope it represents an important step toward justice and accountability.”

This remains an active investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact TPD at 850-891-4200 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.

For years, Maurice Smith helped protect the line at Florida State. Now, he’s protecting a slightly different one.

Smith finished his Seminole career with 52 career starts, the second-most in Florida State history, while becoming a fixture on the offensive line and earning honors for both his play and leadership.

These days, he’s traded garnet and gold for TPD blue and gold, bringing that same discipline, leadership and commitment to protecting and serving the Tallahassee community.

Their food can wait. Your life — and the lives of others you share the road with — can’t.

A TPD Traffic Unit officer recently stopped a driver traveling 93 mph in a 45 mph zone. The driver told the officer he was making a food delivery and receiving notifications that he was taking too long.

We understand the pressure to get somewhere on time, but no delivery, deadline or notification is worth putting lives at risk.

93 in a 45 isn’t running late. It’s reckless.

The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) is currently conducting a death investigation near the intersection of Centerville Road and Welaunee Boulevard.

At approximately 12:34 p.m., TPD responded to the area after a passerby reported seeing a deceased person in the area of the retention pond.

This remains an open and active investigation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have information related to this investigation to contact TPD at 850-891-4200. Individuals may also remain anonymous by contacting Crime Solvers at 850-574-8477.
