Take a look at this video from our Partners from Tall Timbers, a Research Station & Land Conservancy Private Lands Fire Initiative. Fun Fact: Did you know that the county that does the most Rx burning in the country is in Thomas County, Ga and it is all on private lands burning over 100,000 acres annually.

Tall Timbers, a Research Station & Land Conservancy recently released a new video resource, "Burn Smart: Safety Practices for Participating in a Prescribed Fire on Private Land," aimed at first-time burners.
The video emphasizes the importance of preparation, including proper rest, hydration, and protective clothing, and encourages participants to ask key questions before the burn.

Last week, NIPFTC initiated its 2025 Rx Fire Leadership Module Sessions. Throughout this month, the center is operating 5 modules from the Tallahassee Hub location. A typical module configuration encompasses 2-RXB2 trainees, 2-FIRB trainees, and a mix of either 1-FEMO, 1-ENGB, or 1-FFT1 trainee. This results in a total of 6 trainees/module. Each module is guided by 1 Field Coordinator. Session 1 commenced with an in-briefing and orientation at Tall Timbers, followed by field trips to The Jones Center and The Apalachicola National Forest. Following their departure from Tallahassee, all 5 modules have engaged in 2-5 Rx Burns across various regions of Florida. Further updates about our modules, partners, and NIPFTC's innovative approach to Rx Fire training will be forthcoming.

National Interagency Prescribed Fire Training Center would like to pay respects to Ed Nelson and honor his decades of service. Ed was a progenitor of prescribed burning. All practitioners of prescribed fire owe a debt of gratitude to him for his foundational work in prescribed burning at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. He truly trail blazed as he accepted the greatest risks and navigated the ultimate scrutiny in an era where the role of fire and it’s role in a healthy ecosystem was broadly misunderstood be professionals and the citizenry. His work would become the anchor upon which future men and women would rely on to protect values and prevent catastrophe. National Park Service Fire and Aviation Management

Ed Passed way on September 20th, 2024 at age 79. Rest in Peace, thank you for your service.
