In Florida, and across the nation, the criminal justice reform movement has a crucial need for accountability and measurable results across all areas of the justice system. The Project on Accountable Justice (PAJ) is a non-partisan organization with a mission to provide meaningful, independent, public-interest research and education that will help to guide reforms that enlist evidence-based approa

ches to criminal justice. Comprised of public policy academics from distinguished educational institutions, PAJ is working to facilitate research and public dialogue to explore options for reform throughout Florida, and the nation, that turns the tide on expensive prisons with poor outcomes like high recidivism rates, and turns instead to proven public policy solutions that increase public safety and ensure system accountability. The mission of the Project on Accountable Justice (PAJ) is to advance public safety through evidence-based practices and policies in Florida and beyond. PAJ is a criminal justice think tank based at the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy at Florida State University (COSSPP) and is a partnership of FSU-COSSPP, Baylor University's Institute for the Study of Prosocial Behavior, the Institute for Strategic Policy Solutions at St. Petersburg College, and the Florida Public Safety Institute at Tallahassee Community College.

General information

PAJ is committed to begin and end all policy deliberations with data and research. This commitment to evidence-based decision making will ensure a neutral voice is helping to drive rational justice reform in and beyond Florida. To make a difference, Florida’s movement to justice reforms must be grounded in the integrity of data, with rigorous external oversight. And, as such, the research must be built under the neutrality of a consensus building structure – the Switzerland of justice reform.
