The North Tahoe Public Utility District (NTPUD) was formed in 1948 under the State of California Public Utilities Code to provide sewer services to the residents of the north shore of Lake Tahoe. The District’s boundaries range from the Nevada state line in Crystal Bay to Dollar Hill. Our service area includes the communities of Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista, Brockway Vista, Carnelian Bay, Cedar Flat a

nd Agate Bay. In November of 1967, water services were added to the District’s responsibility with the Recreation and Parks Department being created in 1968. The District manages and maintains most of the public beaches in our service area as well as the North Tahoe Regional Park in Tahoe Vista. The North Tahoe Event Center is also owned and managed by the District.

On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the NTPUD Board of Directors will hold a public hearing during its regular Board meeting at the North Tahoe Event Center, 8318 N. Lake Blvd., Kings Beach, CA 96143. The hearing will begin at 3:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as possible, to consider adoption of the District’s 2025 Urban Water Management Plan.

As a water supplier with more than 3,000 connections, NTPUD is required to prepare an Urban Water Management Plan under the California Urban Water Management Planning Act of 1983.

The District’s 2025 UWMP provides a framework for long-term water planning and helps inform the community about how the District is planning to ensure adequate water supplies for existing and future demands.

The plan is available for public review on the District’s website:

This month, field crews are restarting work on the District's Smart Water Replacement Project.

Crews have begun replacing water meters in Kings Beach this week, starting on Speckled Avenue.

If you receive a door hanger notification like this one, your water meter has been replaced, and you may experience a brief burst of air in your water line. To purge this air, please turn on the faucet at the highest elevation point in your house first to purge the air out of the line.

This summer, the District is replacing more than 2,500 water meters throughout the Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista, and Carnelian Bay communities thanks to a $500,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART (Sustain and Manage America’s Resources for Tomorrow) Program.

💧 Did you know that groundwater plays an important role in the North Tahoe Public Utility District’s drinking water system?

In addition to drawing water directly from Lake Tahoe, the District operates two groundwater wells. These wells help strengthen the reliability of our water system and provide a source of clean, high-quality drinking water for our community.

Groundwater begins as rain and snowmelt that slowly filters through soil and rock before reaching underground aquifers. Protecting this vital resource helps safeguard both our drinking water and the health of the Lake Tahoe watershed.

In celebration of National Groundwater Awareness Week, here are three simple ways you can help protect this important natural resource:

1️⃣ Fix leaks – A small household leak can waste thousands of gallons of water each year.
2️⃣ Prevent pollution – Keep chemicals, oils, and fertilizers out of storm drains and soil.
3️⃣ Water wisely – As we head into Spring and Summer, please respect watering day restrictions.

Protecting our groundwater and our watershed helps protect Lake Tahoe.
