The Special District Leadership Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization formed to promote good governance and best practices among California’s special districts through certification, accreditation, and other recognition programs.

We're grateful for the continued support of our regional partners! 💧

Thank you to Placer County Water Agency for providing $60,000 through its 2026 Financial Assistance Program to help fund an interconnection between the Madden Creek and Tahoe Swiss Village water systems. The project will improve emergency preparedness and water system reliability for West Shore communities.

We’re also thankful to El Dorado Water Agency for contributing $20,000 to support the development of TCPUD’s Urban Water Management Plan which allows us to plan for long-term water reliability, drought resilience, and emergency preparedness.

These partnerships help us invest in critical water infrastructure and planning while advancing our shared commitment to a reliable and resilient water supply for the Tahoe community.

💧 “We had no idea anything was leaking… until the water bill arrived.” Or, for some customers, until they received a TCPUD leak alert.

Summer is the most common time of year when customers discover irrigation leaks. As outdoor watering increases, hidden leaks from broken sprinkler heads, dripping valves, or broken underground irrigation lines can waste significant amounts of water before they’re noticed.

Before summer watering ramps up, take a few minutes to inspect your irrigation system:

• Look for wet spots, puddles, or unusually green patches
• Run each irrigation zone and inspect sprinkler heads
• Check valves and connections for drips
• Use your water meter or our EyeOnWater app to monitor usage and alerts

Catching a leak early can save water, money, and stress later in the summer. If you have a smart meter, learn how to sign up for EyeOnWater leak alerts at www.tcpud.org/EyeOnWater

Work on the Dianne Feinstein West Shore Tahoe Trail Reconstruction Project resumes this week.

Originally built in the 1970s, the West Shore Trail has benefitted from TCPUD's ongoing preventative maintenance, but after 50 years, a full reconstruction is necessary to fix widespread cracking, pavement failure, and structural issues that can no longer be addressed through routine maintenance.

This $3.5 million project will reconstruct 1.4 miles of trail between Tahoe City and Sunnyside, including repaving, widening select sections from eight feet to nine feet where feasible, and adding new safety improvements such as signage, striping, railings, and slope adjustments.

Funding for the project includes $2.3 million in grants from the North Tahoe Community Alliance TOT-TBID Dollars at Work Program and $1.7 million from TCPUD’s General Fund, which is primarily supported by local property tax revenue.

Construction is scheduled to continue through October 2026. Trail users should expect periodic closures and detours during active work. No construction will occur on weekends, Fridays in July and August, or from June 27 through July 12.
