Wado for Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. For taking time out of his busy schedule to meet with these great people the other day. Juvenile diabetes is something that affects many of the loved ones in a child’s life. I think the words were,
…a diabetic makes 200 more decisions a day on average…” imagine parents or grandparents with a child and the worry about their child making the right decisions in the day or if the child is old enough to understand those decisions. How many worries loom on the parents then? Too many! I know we, as Cherokee Nation, will look deeper into this and hopefully work on future resources for those kids and their families. Wado to Cherokee Nation Council member Uriah Grass, Rhonda Merrill and Lindsey Branham for visiting with me earlier this week and helping me better understand Type 1 diabetes- an autoimmune condition- and the unique struggle of children with the condition. Over 314,000 children or adolescents have the condition across the United States. They and their families often face great challenges with diagnosis as well as meeting treatment needs each day, particularly in the case of young children. We are always looking at ways to improve our health system and, of course, it starts with listening. Wado Councilor Grass!
