With summer break around the corner, many parents are asking the same question: Is my child ready to stay home alone?

OSU Extension educators say there’s no “magic age.” Maturity, responsibility and confidence matter more than a number.
Before making the decision:
• Practice short test runs
• Review emergency plans
• Discuss house rules
• Talk about kitchen and internet safety
• Make sure your child feels comfortable

Find more tips from OSU Extension to help children stay safe and confident this summer.
