Cherokee Nation will host a two-day ‘Expungement Expo’ on May 19 and 20 at the Chota Center in Tahlequah. The event is open to eligible Cherokee citizens and eligible citizens of other federally recognized tribes seeking to clear their criminal records. Cherokee Nation citizens will also be connected to programs and services that support long-term stability and success.

The inaugural Expungement Expo is being held in partnership with Oklahoma Indian Legal Services and will provide free legal screenings, application assistance and support for filing expungement petitions for criminal convictions in state court under Oklahoma law.

The goal is to reduce barriers to employment, housing, education and financial stability while strengthening Cherokee families and communities.

The Cherokee Nation District Court is proud to announce the launch of our new Mental Health Treatment Court — another important step in strengthening healing, accountability, and second chances within our justice system.

This new court will join the Cherokee Nation’s Reentry Program, Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court, and Veterans Treatment Court as part of our continued commitment to addressing the root causes of justice involvement through support, treatment, and community partnership.

By expanding access to services and culturally grounded support, we are building healthier families, safer communities, and brighter futures for people throughout the reservation. Council of the Cherokee Nation

🚨🚨🚨 SUB-CONTRACTOR ALERT 🚨🚨🚨 Time to build the Cherokee Nation Justice Center. A portion of the historic trust settlement with the federal government was earmarked to build our new Justice Center in Tahlequah (as well as a district courthouse in Catoosa, coming soon). The new facility will consolidate our judicial branch into the stand alone facility that branch deserves and give litigants, defendants, staff and visitors a safe and secure venue for the administration of justice. Relocated the judiciary also frees up space in our main facility to accommodate expanding programs and services. It is fitting that we have turned one of the federal government’s injustices into a justice center for the Cherokee people.
