🚨 SIGN THE PETITION: FREE TATAY LORETO 🚨

Tatay Loreto is 76 years old. He is a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who has lived in the United States for nearly three decades. Today, he is being held at the Northwest Detention Center while battling Stage IV prostate cancer, COPD, hypertension, and diabetes.
Tatay should be with his family, receiving the medical care he needs. Instead, ICE continues to imprison him and disrupt his access to treatment.

And while the U.S. government subjects Tatay to detention and medical violence, the Philippine Consulate has failed to meaningfully intervene for his release.

The Philippine government cannot continue celebrating overseas Filipinos for the labor and remittances we provide while abandoning us when we face detention, abuse, and state violence.

We demand that the Philippine Consulate:
✊🏽 Call for Tatay Loreto's immediate release
✊🏽 Provide meaningful legal and financial assistance to Tatay and his family
✊🏽 Help secure the documents needed for his legal case
✊🏽 Advocate for his uninterrupted and comprehensive medical care

Tatay's family should not have to fight alone for his freedom.

Sign the petition and demand that the Philippine Consulate do its duty to protect Filipinos overseas.

📣 SIGN. SHARE. MOBILIZE.

📣 MASS CAMPAIGN MEETING —FREE TATAY LORETO!

Tatay Loreto is still detained.

At 76 years old and battling Stage IV prostate cancer, Tatay should be spending his days with his family and receiving the medical care he needs and not sitting inside the Northwest Detention Center.

We are calling a Mass Campaign Meeting to bring together organizations, community members, workers, and allies to build broader unity around Tatay’s campaign and take up concrete actions to win his freedom.

We will come together to:
✊🏽 Build pressure on the Philippine Consulate to intervene and fight for Tatay’s immediate release
📣 Expand the petition campaign and bring Tatay’s story to more communities
🏥 Expose ICE’s medical violence against Tatay and other detained migrants
🎨 Develop creative ways to raise awareness and build support for the campaign
🔥 Connect Tatay’s fight to the broader 2,000-a-day campaign against mass migrant detention and deportation
🤝 Build unity with organizations and communities we have been organizing alongside
📋 Take up concrete action items to move the campaign forward

We are inviting PCPSA, FACPS, ICHRP organizations, Jollibee workers, community organizations, migrant organizations, and all our allies to join us.

Tatay Loreto asked us to continue fighting and share his story far and wide. Now we need to organize that fight together.

📣 IN 10 DAYS: Join us at an upcoming healthcare and patient safety training in Tacoma, Washington! This is being hosted by healthcare worker organizers from Minneapolis, who helped train and mobilize thousands of healthcare workers during the upsurge of ICE activity this past January.

Filipinos make up a majority of the workforce at hospitals like St Joseph Medical Center, which is why Malaya Tacoma and PUSO Tacoma stand with healthcare workers in ensuring patient safety, worker protections, and access to comprehensive healthcare for all detained migrants experiencing medical violence and suffering under abhorrent conditions at the NWDC in Tacoma. 🚨RALLY FOR TATAY LORETO🚨
📍 Northwest Detention Center
📅 Tuesday, August 4
🕣 8:30 AM

On July 28, Malaya Tacoma, the Tanggol Migrante Movement, and our allies mobilized outside the Northwest Detention Center for Tatay Loreto's Master Hearing. Instead of moving his case forward, ICE failed to secure an interpreter for the hearing, forcing it to be postponed and extending the unjust detention of a 76-year-old Filipino battling Stage IV cancer.

Every delay means more time separated from his family, more interruptions to his cancer treatment, and more medical violence at the hands of ICE.

Despite everything he is enduring, Tatay Loreto's message to us was simple:"Please continue fighting and share my story." His courage reminds us why we organize and why we refuse to let ICE isolate our migrant elders behind prison walls.

On Tuesday, August 4, we are returning to the Northwest Detention Center to show ICE, GEO Group, and the Philippine Consulate that we will not stop fighting until Tatay Loreto is free.

📣 We call on all organizations within the **Defend Migrants Alliance (DMA), Tanggol Migrante Movement (TMM), International Migrants Alliance (IMA),** and our broader community to mobilize with us.

We also invite organizations to join Tatay Loreto's campaign and stand with his family as we demand:

✊🏽 Free Tatay Loreto NOW!
🏥 Immediate access to comprehensive medical care.
🇵🇭 Philippine Consulate: Demand Tatay Loreto's release and provide the support his family deserves.
🔥 End ICE terror and the medical violence against detained migrants.

No one should have to fight cancer while fighting detention.

See you at NWDC. Bring your organizations, your signs, and your voices. Together, we will continue fighting until Tatay Loreto is Free!

🚨RALLY FOR TATAY LORETO🚨
NWDC | AUG 4 | 8:30AM

On Tuesday, July 28th, Malaya Tacoma, Tanggol Migrante Movement, and other organizations mobilized for Tatay L's Master Hearing. Due to ICE's lack of planning, Tatay L's hearing was rescheduled to August 4th, and thus extending Tatay's unjust detention. Because of this, we are rallying for Tatay Loreto again to show ICE and the Consulate that we will not stop fighting until he is free!

Tatay Loreto was deeply grateful and appreciative of our last rally and how we are fighting for him. He asked us to continue fighting and share his story far and wide!

We are calling on all of the DMA, TMM, IMA, community organizations, and concerned individuals to mobilize to the Northwest Detention Center on August 4th at 8:30AM to rally and demand that Tatay L is released immediately!

We are also calling on organizations to join us in taking up Tatay L's campaign 📣

Please share with your organizations and networks ‼️

Malaya Tacoma and the Tanggol Migrante Movement condemn the continued detention and medical neglect of Tatay Loreto, a 76-year-old Filipino migrant living with Stage IV prostate cancer, COPD, hypertension, and diabetes.
Every day he remains imprisoned inside the Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) is another day his life-saving cancer treatment is delayed, his health deteriorates, and his family is forced to watch him suffer behind concrete walls.
Tatay Loreto is not a criminal. He is a husband, father, grandfather, and retired hotel worker in the Engineering Department who spent nearly three decades building a life in the United States after immigrating in 1995. Yet while attending his U.S. citizenship interview-a process migrants are told to trust-he was detained by ICE. His case exposes the lie that ICE only targets “the worst of the worst” or those who “came the wrong way.” Even those following the legal process are not safe from a system built to criminalize migrants. —> scroll to read full statement

Free Tatay Loreto! Free Kuya Nestor!
On July 20, Tanggol Migrante, alongside labor unions, faith leaders, and community members, rallied for the release of Kuya Nestor. That same day, the family of 76-year-old Tatay Loreto witnessed the strength of the movement and was inspired to take up the fight for his freedom alongside the Tanggol Migrante Movement!
Kuya Nestor’s family shared how he was unjustly detained while receiving no support from the Philippine government. Meanwhile, Tatay Loreto’s detention was made possible because Philippine government gave away information to U.S. immigration officials Rather than defending Filipino migrants, the Philippine government has once again chosen to uphold diplomatic subservience to the U.S. rather than protecting their people. The Philippine Consulate must immediately call for Tatay Loreto’s release and provide every possible legal and consular assistance to his family, including securing the documents needed to push forward his legal case.
Join Malaya Tacoma, Tanggol Migrante, and community members as we really for Tatay Loreto on 6/28 8:00am @ NWDC
