I’m endorsing Cyrus Donato for Port Commissioner, Position 4.

While our campaign did not advance, it’s important to remember that the Port still needs leaders who will fight for clean air, union jobs, and that’s accountable to the people of Pierce County.

That’s why I’m endorsing Cyrus.

Cyrus has done the work where it counts. He’s been on the docks and on the side of working people. As the Puget Sound Inspector for the International Transport Workers’ Federation and a member of the Washington Advisory Committee on Trafficking, he’s stood up to exploitation, pushed for safer conditions, and protected those too often overlooked in the maritime industry. That’s the kind of experience and moral compass we need at the Port.

What impresses me most is how closely Cyrus’ priorities line up with the values I ran on. He’s focused on growing cargo volume the right way: through modernized infrastructure, more union jobs, and environmental accountability so neighbors aren’t asked to pay for pollution they didn’t create. He’s also committed to ethical, transparent governance and deeper partnership with labor, the Puyallup Tribe, and local governments. That’s a shared agenda I believe in.

On my campaign, I pushed for clean, climate-ready infrastructure, strong labor standards and apprenticeship pathways, and real tribal partnership baked into Port policy, and I refused fossil-fuel and corporate PAC money because public trust has to be earned. Those are not just slogans; they’re a governing approach, and Cyrus is ready to carry it forward.

Here’s how our values meet in the middle and move Pierce County forward:

• Union jobs & workforce equity: Build and protect living-wage work while expanding entry points into the trades.

• Modern, clean operations: Invest in smarter rail, gates, and electrification to stay competitive and cut emissions.

• Accountability & partnership: Center transparency, collaborate with labor and the Puyallup Tribe, and make polluters—not taxpayers—responsible for cleanup.

Cyrus has also earned broad, local support, from respected leaders who know the Port and our community, because he’s serious about results.

If you supported me, I’m asking you to join me now: Support Cyrus Donato for Port of Tacoma Commissioner, Position 4.

Let’s keep our working waterfront strong, our air cleaner, and our Port squarely accountable to the people of Pierce County.

Let’s finish what we started, together, with Cyrus.

As the primary comes to a close, I just want to say—thank you.

I’ve been overjoyed by the support I’ve received throughout this campaign. Whether it was a donation, a door knocked, a message of encouragement, or a shared story—every bit of it has kept me going.

No matter the outcome, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll keep fighting for a Port that puts people first—clean air, union jobs, and equity for all.

One surprise highlight? Texting. I wasn’t sure how it would land, but I had some of the best conversations through text. People shared real concerns—from rising costs to job security to climate action. A few folks I even got to meet in person afterward, which made it even more meaningful.

So, in the spirit of gratitude and community, I wanted to share some of the positive texts I received.

📸 Sorry for the long photo dump—but it was worth it to include as many as I could!

🌟 Sometimes stepping away is exactly where you need to be.

Earlier this month, I had the privilege of volunteering at the Friends for Life Conference—a gathering of children, families, and advocates living with type 1 diabetes. I spent a week working with elementary-aged kids, helping run superhero-themed activities and building lifelong friendships along the way.

Yes, it meant stepping away from campaigning for a few days. I missed the Indivisible Tacoma and League of Women Voters forums—events I deeply value. But I wouldn’t trade that time for anything.

My wife was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes before she turned 2. She’s one of the bravest, most passionate people I know—and part of how she became that way was through attending this very conference growing up. Now she gives back as a volunteer, and I’m honored to do the same. 💚

As a candidate, it’s important to share not just what I stand for—but who and what I show up for. This week was a reminder that real service isn’t just about platforms or talking points—it’s about showing up with heart, consistency, and care.

If you or someone you know has a child living with type 1 diabetes, please check out the Seattle Friends for Life Conference coming up November 7–9. It’s life-changing.

While the Tacoma News Tribune did not ultimately endorse me in the Primary (and instead endorsed my older, Republican opponent), I still appreciate their acknowledgement that I know the policies and would be able to deliver necessary changes to the Port of Tacoma.

Why does a Port Commissioner race matter to reproductive rights? Because every level of government—from city councils to port commissions—shapes the conditions for equity, access, and dignity.

At the Port of Tacoma, that means fighting for:
• ⚖️ Economic justice: Expanding access to union jobs, fair wages, and benefits—including reproductive healthcare.
• 🚎 Transit access: Making sure workers can reach jobs, clinics, and community resources—especially in underserved areas.
• 🏗️ Inclusive development: Ensuring Port investments uplift communities, not displace them.
• 🧑🏽‍🤝‍🧑🏿 Accountability: Centering the voices of women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ residents in decisions about our shared future.

I’m running for Port Commissioner to make our institutions more responsive, more just, and more rooted in real people’s lives. This endorsement is a powerful reminder that this work matters—at every level.

Let’s build a port and a region where everyone has the freedom to thrive. 💪

🚛💨 Why are taxpayers footing the bill for industrial pollution? At the Port of Tacoma, we can, and must, do better.

As a Port Commissioner candidate, I believe clean air and efficient infrastructure should go hand in hand, and polluters should pay their fair share.

Many of our port’s road, rail, and terminal systems are outdated, congested, and contributing to harmful emissions. I’m proposing a bold, achievable initiative: the Clean Mobility and Infrastructure Modernization Plan. This will upgrade our aging logistics infrastructure while cutting pollution, improving cargo flow, and holding polluters financially responsible for environmental cleanup.

Here’s how: We’ll invest in zero-emission equipment, expand shore power, and replace diesel yard trucks with electric ones. We’ll modernize roads and rail connectors to reduce truck idling, because cleaner air starts with fewer bottlenecks. And we’ll pursue cleanup of contaminated sites like Alexander Avenue & Arkema, with costs covered by the industries that caused the damage, not taxpayers.

We’ll do this by leveraging infrastructure grants, strengthening enforcement tools, and ensuring public oversight. I’m committed to making the Port of Tacoma a national model for clean, competitive, and accountable operations.

Let’s modernize our port without compromising our health or our values. Join me in building a more sustainable future, where prosperity and environmental responsibility move forward together. 💡🌱
