On Friday, June 19, Tacoma Community House & The REACH Center will be closed in observance of Juneteenth and invite our community to join us in reflection.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. Widely recognized as marking the effective end of slavery for many enslaved African Americans and symbolizing the broader end of slavery in the United States, Juneteenth stands as a powerful reminder that the promise of freedom and equality has not always been realized immediately or equally for all.

As we honor this important day, we encourage everyone to reflect on its historical significance, celebrate the resilience, achievements, and contributions of African Americans, and recognize our shared responsibility to advance equity, inclusion, and opportunity in our communities.

Yesterday, we celebrated the end of another English-language-learning quarter at Tacoma Community House and The REACH Center.

As tradition continues, we enjoyed our end-of-quarter potluck, where each dish reflected the cultural richness and diversity that make our community so special. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together, connect, and celebrate the achievements made throughout these months of learning.

The day was filled with joy, laughter, games, dancing, and memorable moments that allowed us to close this chapter on a high note.

We wish our students a happy break! Thank you for your dedication, perseverance, and enthusiasm throughout the quarter. Enjoy your well-deserved rest—we look forward to welcoming you back in the fall quarter as we continue learning and growing together.

✨ Celebrating Olesea’s Journey ✨

As Olesea’s internship at Tacoma Community House comes to a close, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the dedication, compassion, and positive energy she brought to our Immigration Department.

Throughout her time with us, Olesea supported immigrants and refugees as they navigated the legalization process in the United States. This experience not only strengthened our work but also deepened her understanding of the resilience, courage, and determination that define our community.

When reflecting on her time at TCH, Olesea shared that one of her most cherished memories was the warm welcome and unwavering support she received from her colleagues from day one. That sense of belonging and community is at the heart of who we are.

As she moves forward, Olesea leaves us with a powerful message:
"The work you do is incredible. Even when challenges arise, remember that you make a tremendous impact on the lives of your clients, and your efforts do not go unnoticed."

We were honored to welcome members of the Heron’s Key Community to Tacoma Community House and The REACH Center!

During their visit, our guests shared meaningful moments of connection and learning while exploring the history and impact of our organization. They also learned about the programs and services we provide to support individuals and families throughout the region. As part of their visit, they participated in Talk Time sessions, giving students in our English language classes a valuable opportunity to practice conversational skills, build confidence, and connect with new people.

We are deeply grateful to the Heron’s Key Community for their enthusiasm, generosity, and willingness to spend time with our students and participants.
Opportunities like these strengthen relationships and create enriching experiences for everyone involved.
