No single team can do this alone. In collaboration with the Skokomish Indian Tribe, we’re restoring and maintaining salmon runs for future generations.

Each release helps rebuild a future where these fish, and the traditions around them, can return.

Meet Jon Sigafoos, who has spent more than 20 years working in Tacoma Power’s Dam Safety Program.

Jon’s job is all about paying attention to the details that most people never see. He helps monitor our dams by collecting and tracking data, supporting inspections, and making sure Tacoma’s hydropower dams are responding as expected. That work helps us meet strict safety rules and manage risk at our hydro facilities.

Last year, Jon helped lead a dye test at Mayfield Dam. About 300 gallons of dyed water were used to better understand how water moves through part of the dam. The results helped confirm system performance and added to the team’s overall understanding.

Proactive projects like this are regular work for Jon, and help track important data, support dam safety inspections, and keep critical records that ensure compliance with agencies like the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

On National Dam Safety Awareness Day, we’re recognizing the people behind the scenes, like Jon, who show up year after year to help keep our dams safe, our power reliable, and our community protected.
