It’s National Emergency Management Awareness Month!

West Pierce Fire & Rescue is more than fire and EMS. There’s an Emergency Management Division that specializes in preparing plans and conducting training for the cities of Lakewood and University Place, the Town of Steilacoom and WPFR.

Our emergency management coordinators work hard within the district and alongside neighboring cities, counties, and agencies across the region and state. Through partnerships including the West Pierce Emergency Management Coalition (WPEMC), they help residents, businesses, schools, agencies, and community groups prepare for major events.

Their preparation makes all the difference. We appreciate you!

Root, root, root for the HOSERS! 🎶🥎🔥 Last night, the West Pierce Fire Fighters' softball team, the Hosers, competed in the first annual first responder softball tournament at Cheney Stadium.

The team placed second after a fantastic final championship game against Tacoma Fire. 💪 It was also a blast watching games featuring East Pierce Fire and Tacoma PD. 👏

Thank you to everyone who came out last night to support all the first responders!

“I just felt really ready to save somebody’s life that day.”

Neely Sipes-May and Nathan May spotted a person lying on the side of the road in critical need of help. They stopped, stepped in and helped save a life.

West Pierce Fire & Rescue is proud to recognize Neely and Nathan with the Life Saving Award. ❤️‍🔥

Both are volunteers and members of WPFR’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), which teaches community members how to prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies.

They made the most of free resources available to the community, and that training helped prepare them for this exact moment. Those same resources are available for you, too:

REMINDER: Starting TODAY, West Pierce Fire & Rescue is upgrading its burn ban. This burn ban applies to all cities within WPFR’s jurisdiction, not just unincorporated areas.

These changes align with Pierce County's Stage 2 Burn Ban, which also went into effect today.

Starting Monday, August 17th, West Pierce Fire & Rescue is upgrading its Burn Ban to align with the Stage 2 Burn Ban that will go into effect for unincorporated Pierce County.

🚫 Recreational fires, including outdoor/recreational burn pits, backyard fire pits, or backyard fireplaces will not be allowed.

🚫 Outdoor burning will continue to be prohibited. Burning trash and yard debris is never allowed within WPFR's jurisdiction, no matter the time of year.

✅ Barbecues that use gas, wood, or charcoal ARE allowed if they are on a non-combustible surface (like concrete).
