KID Connect, Pierce County, WA KID Connect: 1) provides extraordinary things for kids in dependency/foster care; and 2) supports volunteer Advocates working with children in foster care.

KID Connect is a 501(c)3 non-profit that supports Pierce County children and families who are involved in court ordered dependencies.

1. Pierce County has about 230 CASAs or about half the current need. Nearly 2000 children were served in 2011.

2. Pierce County is one of the few urban counties in Washington without a non-profit group supporting its CASA program.

3.State funding for Advocates

and many other human service programs is being reduced (in 2010-11 by 10 per cent).

4. Non-profits in Washington State and around the nation have successfully raised additional funds to support local programs and children in need.

5. A 1998 review by Washington State's Public Policy Institute upheld the effectiveness and cost savings of Advocate or guardian ad litem programs. Pierce County ranked in the lower one third on cost per case.

6. A non-profit can develop an additional volunteer base to help recruit Advocate volunteers, raise funds from the private sector and secure grants that may be available from a variety of sources.

7. A non-profit can increase Advocate visibility by placing community leaders on its board of directors and an advisory group.
