Matthew 25 at Tabor City is a non-profit organization created to provide housing to families of incarcerated men and women when they come to visit their loved ones. As this place came to life, some members of the community felt strongly about creating a safe space to bring hope and light to families of these prisoners. Instead of turning to fear, they chose to think of the ones that are so easily
forgotten. Inmates have families, families that are struggling financially and emotionally during an already difficult time.
So the team set out to bring this vision to fruition. They visited the Matthew 25 Center in Burgaw, NC and realized that their vision could become reality. Thankfully, a Tabor City native generously gifted two acres of land less than a mile from the Tabor City Correctional Facility. Before they knew it, boom the Matthew 25 Center of Tabor City was now a real place!
The Matthew 25 Team of TC realizes that keeping inmates connected to their families brings hope and restoration individually and communally. Research shows that inmates who remain in contact with their families are approximately 50% less likely to return to prison. (Department of Justice) Whether their sentence is 8 months or 18 months, that support system can change the future of the inmate, their family members, and their community! We are merely a team of people trying to bring the Kingdom of God to Earth. As we read Scripture, we see that God chose being present over perfection. We see Jesus stand up for the brokenhearted and the ones everyone else avoided, which he called "the least of these". (Matthew 25:24-41) We desire to be present and to walk with these families. We are always looking for partners in this journey. If you have questions or would like to join our team, please contact us.
