Rising temperatures can quickly turn dangerous. Whether you’re working outside or enjoying time in the sun, take a few simple steps to stay safe:

💧 Drink water often, even if you don’t feel thirsty
🧢 Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning

Even on mild days, the temperature inside a parked car can rise quickly and become dangerous in minutes. Cracked windows and shade won’t keep your pet safe.

If you’re running errands, the safest option is to leave your pet at home where it’s cool and comfortable. A quick stop can turn into a serious situation. Help keep your furry friends safe by never leaving them unattended in a vehicle.

* A - Aim the nozzle at the base of the flame
* S - Squeeze the trigger

A stroke can affect anyone, but it often looks different in women. Women may experience the common warning signs, along with symptoms that can be easy to overlook.

🚨 Know the signs of stroke (F.A.S.T.):
* Face drooping
* Arm weakness
* Speech difficulty
* Time to call 911

⚠️ Additional symptoms more common in women:
* Sudden confusion or disorientation
* Nausea or vomiting
* Shortness of breath
* Sudden fatigue or weakness

Women also face a higher lifetime risk of stroke, making awareness even more important.

If you notice any of these signs, call 911 immediately. Fast action can save a life and reduce long-term effects.

Captain Gulley was awarded the Supervising Fire Officer Designation during the City Council meeting, and we are so excited to congratulate him on this accomplishment!

This designation is achieved by documenting a comprehensive body of career development classes, higher education, certifications, competencies, and experiences, in accordance with criteria developed by the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

This designation is not easy to attain, and he joins an elite group of fire service professionals who push themselves to continue learning and growing. We are so grateful for your efforts and for having you as part of the Syracuse Fire Department!
