Sunday, September 6, AND Thursday, September 3: Total Volunteer Hours 460

Carriage House: I don’t usually miss a post, but just realized I never reported on last Thursday’s outing at the Carriage House. We w**ded and planted a few more perennials. We didn’t manage to get to the back of the building, but tidied the front and both sides. Some w**ds were taller than us! Thank you Marilyn, Ty, Buzzy, and Miranda

Lily Pond: On a glorious late afternoon today, five of us planted, watered, w**ded, and dug up invasives. Most of our attention was on the eastern perennial bed. We planted nine lovely perennials donated by the Syracuse Parks Greenhouse. Courtney Becker has amazing taste in plants and we can't wait to see how the hyssop, rudbeckia, Russian sage survive the winter and flower next year. Thank you Marilyn, Ty, Buzzy, Mary and Miranda. For the first time in years I feel like the eastern bed is fully planted and under control so next spring we can move on to the western bed. I am so grateful for the new "regulars." They have all made such a difference.

SUNY ESF Saturday of Service. Saturday, August 22 2026. Total Volunteer Hours 448
Once again a large group of energetic Freshmen walked over to Thornden to take part in SUNY ESF’s Saturday of Service. After brief introductions they divided into five groups helping to w**d the Herb Garden, prune the lilacs in the Lilac Grove, clear the Brick Paths, trim the trees and mulch the new walking trail. That is a lot of projects in one day. Thank you to community members: Vivek, Alex, Katie, Nancy, Buzzy, Miranda, Amanda, Skylar and Richard. Thank you to Parks for loan of tools.
