The 100% Volunteer Protective Company #1 of the Fairmount Fire Department was formed in 1942 to cover the rapidly growing southeastern portion of The Town of Camillus. Located inside of Onondaga County in Central New York, Fairmount is located five miles west of the City of Syracuse, and is a proud member of Onondaga County's Western Section Line Officers Association. Being a suburb of Syracuse, Fairmount is a densely populated area consisting of single family homes, numerous multi-family apartment complexes, and several large Industrial and commercial business zones.

Signal 99 - Huntsville Road - Solvay Fire District

At 09:02, Fairmount Engine 5 was dispatched as part of a box alarm assignment for a reported residential fire in the 100 block of Huntsville Road in the Solvay Fire District.

Engine 5 responded within one minute of dispatch and arrived as the second-due engine. First-arriving Solvay units reported smoke showing and declared a Signal 99.

Engine 5’s crew performed primary searches of Division 1 for any trapped occupants. All searches proved negative. Once the fire was extinguished, crews worked alongside Solvay and Taunton firefighters to ventilate the residence.

Fairmount units cleared the scene and returned to service by 10:00.

While Fairmount crews operated in Solvay, an additional crew remained at our firehouse to provide coverage for any in-district alarms.

This morning, two Fairmount firefighters and their families participated in the CNY Memorial Stair Climb held in Utica.

The CNY Memorial Stair Climb is held each year to honor the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. Participants climb 110 floors—the height of the former World Trade Center towers—in remembrance of the 343 firefighters, 70 law enforcement officers, and 8 EMTs who lost their lives at Ground Zero. Each climber carries the name and photograph of a fallen hero throughout the climb.

The event is not a race, but a memorial and a powerful reminder of the sacrifice, dedication, and courage displayed by first responders on September 11th. The climb begins with a memorial ceremony, with several moments throughout the event timed to significant events from that morning.

We are proud of our members and their families for taking part in this year’s climb and helping fulfill the promise to Never Forget.

Signal 98 - 4309 Cleveland Road - Onondaga Hill

At 10:35, Fairmount was alerted to a residential fire on the 4300 block of Cleveland Road in the Onondaga Hill Fire Department district.

Fairmount Truck 1 and Car 1 responded on dispatch along with the remainder of the box alarm assignment. Fairmount Car 1 was the first arriving fire chief and assumed command.

Truck 1 arrived second due and was tasked with primary search operations. Once the primary search was complete, the crew checked for extension and assisted with overhaul. The fire was contained primarily contained to the area of origin with only minor extension into the first floor from the basement.

Fairmount cleared the scene and returned to service at 12:15.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States—a day that we shall never forget.

On that day, our nation lost 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, and thousands of civilians.

Today, we stand in tribute to honor all those who lost their lives, the families and loved ones they left behind, and the first responders and survivors who continue to fight the lasting effects of the attacks 25 years later.

We remember their courage. We honor their sacrifice. We will never forget.

This week, Fairmount members are taking part in Scenario-Based Live Fire Evolutions designed to challenge crews with complex, dynamic incidents and require them to operate just as they would at a real emergency.

Crews were faced with multiple scenarios throughout the evening, including first-floor, second-floor, and basement fires with several victims trapped inside. Members had to quickly locate and remove victims while simultaneously stretching and operating handlines, conducting searches, and completing other fireground tasks. Various tactics were utilized throughout the evolutions, including VES.

Members rotated assignments during each scenario, giving everyone the opportunity to operate on the primary and backup handlines and serve as the rescue and truck companies.

Scenario-based training brings multiple skills together into one evolution, requiring crews to communicate, make decisions, and work together while conditions and assignments continue to change.

9/8/2026 - Signal 98 - Rutledge Street - Solvay Fire District

At 14:25, Fairmount was dispatched to a Residential Fire in the 200 block of Rutledge Street in the Solvay Fire Department district as part of the box alarm assignment. Fairmount Engine 5, which was out on dispatch, arrived and established a water supply as well as stretched a handline into the structure.

Crews found a minor fire that was mostly out on arrival. Engine 5 worked alongside Solvay and Taunton crews to check for extension and ventilate the residence. Engine 5 cleared the scene by 15:00.

School is back in session!

As students head back to the classroom, we’re asking everyone to take a little extra time on the roads. Expect increased traffic, school buses making frequent stops, crossing guards, and children walking or biking to and from school.

Slow down in school zones and neighborhoods, put the phone down, watch carefully at crosswalks, and always stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights. Take an extra look before backing out of a driveway or pulling onto the road—kids can be difficult to see and may not always be paying attention to traffic.

A few extra minutes on your commute is a small price to pay to make sure everyone gets where they’re going safely.

At 10:29, Fairmount was alerted to a Motor Vehicle Collision with Injuries – Signal 80 – Rollover at the intersection of West Genesee Street and Weatheridge Drive.

Fairmount Engine 5 (Engine 94), Rescue 1, and Miscellaneous 1 responded. Police arrived on scene and confirmed one vehicle on its side with an occupant trapped and requiring extrication.

Crews quickly went to work stabilizing the vehicle, including anchoring it to another vehicle to prevent movement during the extrication. Once stabilized, crews performed a full roof removal to gain access to the trapped occupant.

The occupant was successfully extricated and turned over to the awaiting WAVES ambulance for further evaluation.

SEALED BID SALE – 2018 CHEVROLET TAHOE

Fairmount Fire Department is accepting sealed bids for a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe with 72,235 miles.

The vehicle is currently being offered exclusively to first responder agencies and will be sold with its existing emergency equipment.

Bidding opens September 3. Sealed bids will be accepted from eligible first responder agencies. The vehicle will be awarded to the highest qualified bidder, provided the reserve price is met.

The Tahoe will be available for inspection from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM on:

* October 2
