NORTH SYRACUSE TRUCK 1 RESPONDS TO RESIDENTIAL FIRE IN CICERO

On Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, at approximately 1252 hours, the North Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched automatic aid to the Cicero Fire District for a reported residential fire in the 6400 block of Electric Railway. The box assignment requested North Syracuse Truck 1.

Truck 1 responded to the incident and arrived as the second-due apparatus. Upon arrival, Truck 1’s crew located a fire involving a wall-mounted oven that was beginning to impinge on the cabinets above.

The crew utilized a Class A fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire. Once the fire was extinguished, Truck 1’s crew performed minor overhaul and removed the wall-mounted oven assembly.

Truck 1 remained on scene to assist with the incident until returning to service at approximately 1356 hours.

Single Vehicle Rollover on I-81/I-481 Interchange – Two Occupants Extricated

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, at approximately 2048 hours, the North Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched to the I-81/I-481 interchange for a reported single-vehicle rollover. The caller reported a vehicle that had rolled over into the ditch and was resting on its side.

North Syracuse Rescue 7 arrived at approximately 2056 hours and confirmed the dispatch. Rescue 7 responded with a crew of seven, including three of the department’s student bunk-ins. The crew found the vehicle occupied by two individuals and made contact with both occupants.

Due to the position of the vehicle and the need to safely remove the occupants, firefighters performed a roof removal to facilitate extrication. Both occupants were successfully extricated from the vehicle utilizing Holmatro Pentheon extrication tools. North Syracuse Engine 4 also responded to the scene.

NAVAC Ambulance and the New York State Police were also on scene. NAVAC handled all patient care and transportation.

All North Syracuse Fire Department units were clear from the scene at approximately 2136 hours.

Two-Vehicle Accident with Vehicle Fire – Town of Cicero

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at approximately 1933 hours, the North Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of East Circle Drive and South Hogan Drive in the Town of Cicero for a reported two-vehicle motor vehicle accident.

The initial caller reported that two vehicles were involved in the accident. Further updates to responding units indicated that one of the vehicles had an active fire in the engine compartment.

North Syracuse Engine 4 arrived on scene at approximately 1937 hours. Prior to the Fire Department’s arrival, a responding New York State Police unit utilized his department-issued fire extinguisher to extinguish the engine compartment fire. NAVAC Ambulance handled all patient care. There were no updates available regarding injuries.

Fire Department crews checked the vehicle to ensure the fire was completely extinguished, secured hazards on both vehicles, and cleaned debris from the roadway.

North Syracuse Fire Department Responds to Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 26, 2026

On August 25, 2026, at approximately 5:50 p.m., the North Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched by the Onondaga County Department of Emergency Communications to a reported single-vehicle motor vehicle accident in the 6500 block of Island Road in the Town of Cicero.

Upon arrival, emergency crews found that the vehicle had left the roadway, struck and severed a telephone pole, and ultimately came to rest in a nearby cornfield. The collision caused power lines to come down across the roadway. The vehicle’s lone male occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Due to accessibility issues caused by the downed power lines, mutual aid was requested from the South Bay Fire Department, which responded and assisted at the scene.

The Town of Cicero Police Department is continuing its investigation into the accident, with assistance from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Manlius Police Department. National Grid also responded to address the damaged utility pole and downed power lines.

North Syracuse units initially returned to service at approximately 6:36 p.m. At approximately 8:32 p.m., North Syracuse Rescue 7 was requested back to the scene. Firefighters subsequently performed the necessary extrication to remove the deceased from the vehicle.

Media Release — Basement Fire on Hazelhurst Avenue

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

This morning, at approximately 2:17 a.m., the North Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched to the 100 block of Hazelhurst Avenue for a reported basement fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a smoke condition coming from the basement. Crews investigated and determined that the source of the smoke was a burned-out light fixture in a basement bathroom.

Firefighters performed ventilation of the residence and secured the electrical breakers. The incident was turned over to National Grid for further evaluation.
