💧 End-of-summer pool draining tips

As summer wraps up, it’s important to drain pools the right way to protect neighborhoods and infrastructure. Please do not drain pool water into sewer systems, as they may not be able to handle large volumes and could cause sewer backups into nearby basements.

Before draining, allow your pool water to dechlorinate naturally by letting sunlight break down the chlorine. Once chlorine levels are below 0.019 mg/L, the water may be safely discharged into landscaping or the storm drain. Taking a little extra time helps prevent problems and keeps Syracuse’s systems working properly.

FOG: The clog-maker! 🕵️‍♀️🔒

Fats, oils, and greases (FOG) might seem harmless, but they have a dark side. They harden in your pipes and in city pipes, where they can create stubborn clogs and cause backups.

Keep our drains and system flowing smoothly and don't dispose of these items down your pipes.
