What an incredible day yesterday was as we celebrated Israel Day on Fifth!

It was truly inspiring to see the thousands of marchers and the crowds cheering from the sidelines as we made our way up Fifth Avenue, proudly celebrating Israel and the Jewish people.

Thank you to everyone who participated, marched, volunteered, organized, and helped make this extraordinary day possible. Your enthusiasm, commitment, and spirit made the celebration so meaningful.

Last week, JCRC-LI and The Brandeis Association co-sponsored the event, “Me Too, Where Were You?” The program featured a screening of the documentary Screams Before Silence, followed by a panel discussion. JCRC-LI Executive Director Mindy Perlmutter was honored to participate on the panel alongside Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, with Jackie Harounian serving as moderator.

A very special thank you to Marilyn Moriber for all of her hard work in helping to make this important program possible, and thank you to Shelter Rock Jewish Center for hosting this meaningful event.

Last Friday, Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island and UJA-Federation of New York held our Long Island Legislative Reception. The room was filled as attendees listened to remarks from Representatives Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen, and heard about safety and security on Long Island from keynote speaker Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.

In addition, attendees had the opportunity to learn more about how JCRC-LI and UJA are working together to support our Long Island community and to engage with Town, County, and State elected officials from across the region.

Thank you to our speakers, attendees, and Sid Jacobson JCC for hosting this incredible event.

Congratulations to Dr. Michael A. Kay on his appointment as the next CEO of UJA-Federation of New York.

Dr. Kay’s deep commitment to education, community-building, and leadership has helped strengthen Jewish life across New York and beyond. His years of experience guiding and inspiring the next generation of leaders while building strong, pluralistic learning communities reflect values central to our work at JCRC-NY.

We look forward to working together to strengthen our community, confront rising antisemitism, deepen connections to Israel, and support New Yorkers in need. Mazal tov, Dr. Kay.

We also thank Eric S. Goldstein for his 12 years of dedicated leadership and service to our community as he continues in his role through October 4.

JCRC-LI mourns the passing of legendary former Anti-Defamation League leader Abraham Foxman, a towering voice against antisemitism, hate, and bigotry in all forms.

For decades, Abe stood shoulder to shoulder with organizations like JCRC-LI in advancing the safety, dignity, and democratic rights of the Jewish community while building bridges across communities and faiths.

His moral clarity, courage, and lifelong commitment to justice helped shape generations of Jewish communal leadership. May his memory forever be a blessing.
