Forty-four years ago Police Officer Daniel Greer was tragically killed in the line of duty in Plainview.

Last year while up in Albany I received a call from the Nassau County PBA with a legislative request that I couldn’t wait to undertake.

Assemblymember Charles Lavine and I worked together to pass legislation to rename the bridge on Sunnyside Blvd after Daniel Greeer. today I had the honor of joining the PBA, SOA - NCPD, Nassau County Detectives' Assoc., Suffolk County Superior Officers Association, and most importantly Daniel’s family.

It is my hope that this sign will help preserve the memory of Daniel Greer forever and inspire the next generation of Nassau County residents.

I want to take a moment to thank you all for allowing me the privilege to serve Long Island in the New York State Senate these past four years. Because of your support, we moved our state forward past decades of partisan roadblocks.

Under this Majority, New York enacted critical legislation to codify the right to abortion, protect our communities from gun violence, expand voting access, begin building out a green future, guaranteed protections for our LGBTQ+ neighbors.

We delivered justice for survivors of child abuse, decriminalized and legalized cannabis, worked to keep our communities safe and make our justice more system, and secured millions for our schools, our villages, our police and fire departments.

I want to thank Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for her leadership, and my colleagues from every corner of the State who helped us deliver for Long Island. As I leave office, I do so knowing our state is in good hands.

I want to thank my wife, Carol, and children, Kaitlin and Mike, for the endless support, and my amazing staff (Kevin, Leslie, Elena, Mario, Marissa, Liya, Bob, Chelsea, Kathy, Jenn, and Brian) who handled constituent crises, a pandemic and even a (allegedly) radioactive cat with compassion, dedication and a touch of humor.

While I’ll be signing off from social media for a bit, I’ll keep fighting for our community however I can.

If I don’t see you in town, you can still reach me at [email protected] or P.O. Box 20574, Huntington Station, NY 11746.

Thank you again for making this all possible.

Sincerely,

Jim

32 years ago, I sat next to Fred Thiele in the County Legislature. Yesterday, we returned to the legislative building to hold a LIPA Commission hearing which will likely be my last public government event in the New York State Senate.

Thanks to my staff and everyone who helped with our food and toy drive for the Buffalo community. It was a huge success. Thank you to Senator Tim Kennedy and his staff for coordinating with us.

I was honored to attend the dedication of the entrance to the Manor Field Park sports complex after the late youth football coach and advocate William Earl Thomas III on Mr. Thomas' birthday - Wednesday, August 31 and present a Proclamation to his family.

Today I voted to enact common sense legislation to protect New York families from the burden of gun violence. While the Supreme Court rolls back the clock on so many critical issues, I am proud that New York continues to lead in the fight for our children’s futures.

06/24/2022

Today’s decision is another example of the Supreme Court making partisan decisions that will harm millions of Americans. One of the first bills I voted on was to codify the right to an abortion here in New York State.

But that’s of little consolation to women in other states.

Congress needs to act, and act immediately, to protect the rights of women to seek abortion services nationwide.

New York has and will continue to lead on this issue, and we have more to do, we need our partners in Washington to follow.

Thank you Governor Kathy Hochul for your leadership on gun safety. I’m ready to come back for a special session as soon as legislation is ready to be voted on.

I’m not sure if you saw, but last night the The Smithtown Library voted to remove all Pride displays and books on the same “subject” on display from the children’s section.

This is sad behavior from the Library Board got me and my office thinking: if we were to buy children books celebrating - or even just acknowledging - our LBGT+ friends, family and neighbors, what would you recommend?

I’ll send some copies to the Smithtown Library so they can restock their shelves.
