📍 Economic Development 101: GRAD Certified

When a company is searching for its next location, time and certainty matter. Communities that can provide detailed information about a potential site and demonstrate that important due diligence has already been completed are better positioned to compete for investment.

That's where GRAD Certified comes in.

Worth County's Industrial Park East is a GRAD Certified site, signaling to prospective companies and site selectors that the property has undergone an extensive evaluation and is positioned for accelerated development.

Why does that matter? Greater site readiness can help reduce uncertainty, shorten development timelines, and make it easier for companies to confidently evaluate Worth County for their next investment.

It's another way we're doing the work now to be ready for the opportunities ahead.

CTAE Pathway Highlight: Financial Services đź’°

Behind every successful business is a strong understanding of finances.

Through the Financial Services pathway at Worth County High School, students explore the world of banking, investment planning, insurance, and business financial management while developing skills they can carry into both their careers and everyday lives.

Led by Mrs. Mandi Smith, students also have opportunities to put their skills into action through FBLA and the school's student-run Print Shop, gaining valuable experience in leadership, business operations, and entrepreneurship.

Whether their future is in banking, financial planning, accounting, insurance, entrepreneurship, or another business field, these students are building a strong foundation for success.

Developing financially skilled, business-minded young professionals is another way Worth County is preparing today's students for tomorrow's workforce.

🏗️ Industry Highlight: Short & Paulk Supply Company Sylvester Location

Founded in South Georgia in 1941, Short & Paulk Supply Company has built a legacy of serving communities across the region, and today, Worth County is at the center of its continued growth.

Short & Paulk's corporate office is located in Sylvester, along with a home center and door manufacturing operation. With approximately 100 employees companywide, the company serves customers throughout South Georgia, North Florida, and Southeast Alabama.

Most recently, Short & Paulk acquired the retail side of Big Jim's Bow Company, bringing together two businesses built on generations of craftsmanship and service. The partnership allows Big Jim to focus on what he does best, handcrafting custom bows, while Short & Paulk works to grow the retail operation, expand its offerings, and carry that tradition forward.

From building materials and manufacturing to retail and regional distribution, Short & Paulk demonstrates how established businesses can continue to grow, diversify, and invest in their communities.

We're proud to have them growing right here in Worth County!

Economic development is about more than attracting new businesses—it’s also about creating vibrant places where people want to live, visit, and invest.

Sylvester’s new Patriotic Mural is a great example of how public art, community partnerships, and downtown improvements can strengthen local pride, enhance quality of life, and encourage visitors to explore our community.

Congratulations to the City of Sylvester, Georgia Government, Sylvester Main Street, artist Laylon Ivey, and everyone who helped bring this meaningful project to life!

Downtown Sylvester has a new landmark worth seeing.

Strong communities grow by supporting industry, retail, small businesses, and entrepreneurs together.

The Worth County Economic Development Authority recently attended two back-to-back events hosted by Georgia Power Economic Development: the Retail Ready Showcase and the CREATE Entrepreneurship Summit.

From strategies for attracting retailers that fit our market to new ideas for strengthening entrepreneurship and small business support, both events reinforced the importance of growing our economy from every angle.

We returned home with valuable connections, practical resources, and fresh ideas for creating an environment where businesses of every size can succeed.

Industry matters. Small business matters. Entrepreneurship matters. Retail matters. It ALL matters when we’re building a stronger Worth County!
