PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

The City of Sylvania is considering applying to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a Community Development Block Grant of up to $1,000,000. These funds must be used to primarily benefit low and moderate income persons.

The activities for which funds may be used are in the areas of housing, public facilities, and economic development. More specific details regarding eligible activities, plans to assist displaced persons (if any), the estimated amount of funds proposed to be used for activities to benefit low and moderate income persons, and the rating system will be provided at a public hearing which will be held at Sylvania City Hall, 104 South Main Street, Sylvania, Ga. 30467 on February 11, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.

The purpose of this hearing will be to obtain citizen input into the development of the application and review progress on the previous CDBG grant (if applicable). Persons with special needs relating to handicapped accessibility or foreign language shall contact Stacy Mathis, City Manager at (912) 564-7407 prior to February 11, 2026. This person can be located at the Sylvania City Hall, 104 South Main Street, Sylvania, Ga. 30467 between the hours of 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday, except holidays.

Individuals who are hearing impaired can contact the Georgia Relay Services, telephone number (TDD) 1-800-255-0056, (Voice) 1-800-255-0135.

***For Immediate Release 1/27/26 2:45pm***

The courtroom at the Screven County Sheriff’s Officewill open as a warming center for those who may need it. The courtroom will open at 6pm each night. You must be at the Screven County Sheriff's Office by 7pm each night. The court room will close again at 8am each morning. Warming center will be available from Tues. Jan. 27th thru Tues. Feb 3rd.

** You must be at the S.C.S.O by 7pm**

We will evaluate the need for more nights next week.
