After processing the applications we’ve received for the 2026 Screven County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Police Academy, we officially have 3 spots remaining!

The Citizens Police Academy is about more than learning what we do- it’s about building positive relationships, encouraging open communication, and strengthening the connection between law enforcement and our community.

Maybe you’ve questioned or disagreed with certain legal processes. Maybe you don’t know much about law enforcement and want to better understand how things work. Or maybe you’re just looking for something new, fun, and interactive to experience.

This academy is for you!

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, interact directly with law enforcement, learn more about the laws and processes that affect our community, and take part in fun, informational, hands-on activities throughout the academy.

We have 3 spots left, and once they’re filled, registration is closed!

🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET | SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Today, the Screven County Sheriff’s Office joins our nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honoring the courage of the first responders, law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency personnel, service members, and ordinary citizens who answered an unimaginable tragedy with extraordinary bravery.

Twenty-five years have passed, but the responsibility to remember remains.

We remember those who never made it home.
We honor those who ran toward danger when others were running away.

We stand with the families who continue to carry their loss.

And we remember the unity and strength our nation showed in the days that followed.

🚦 UPDATE – HWY 21 ROADWAY REOPENED 🚦

Hwy 21 at Poor Robin Road is now OPEN in both directions and normal traffic flow has resumed.

The Screven County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation during the extended closure, as well as all emergency personnel and agencies who responded and worked to safely clear the scene.

Please continue to use caution as you travel through the area.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT – HWY 21 🚨

The Screven County Sheriff’s Office is advising motorists that all northbound traffic on Hwy 21 at the intersection of Poor Robin Road is CLOSED until further notice due to a single-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer.

⚠️ Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use an alternate route while emergency personnel work the scene.

Please use caution in the area and allow emergency responders room to work safely.

We will provide an update in the comments when the roadway has reopened.

🚨 ZERO TOLERANCE FOR SPEEDING 🚨

Four lives have been lost on Screven County roadways in the past 30 days. Enough is enough.

At the direction of Sheriff Norman Royal, deputies will be taking a zero-tolerance approach to speeding. If you are stopped for speeding, you will receive a citation—no warnings until further notice.

This isn’t about writing tickets. It’s about preventing another family from receiving a knock on the door that changes their lives forever.

This applies to everyone. It does not matter who you are, who you know, or where you are going.

Please slow down. Put the phone away. Wear your seat belt. Pay attention to the road.

A citation may be inconvenient. Losing another member of our community is irreversible.

Highway 21 near Evans Lane is now OPEN to all traffic.

Emergency personnel have cleared the scene, and normal traffic flow has resumed.

🚨 UPDATE – HIGHWAY 21 TRAFFIC ALERT 🚨

Emergency services are still actively working the accident scene on Highway 21 near Evans Lane. Southbound traffic remains closed at this time.

We anticipate the roadway reopening shortly once the on-scene investigation is completed and the area is cleared.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as emergency personnel work to safely clear the scene.
