So much chaos ensued last week with the water system. What started as simple water tower maintenance and inspection turned into a perfect storm. Three separate water main breaks, 2 on 4" lines and one on the 6" line that feeds the water tower, and also 2 broken valves, this is what happens when you have water lines from the year 1911. The importance of getting these lines replaced is evident at this point, luckily, we are already in the process of getting these lines replaced, work on this should hopefully begin at the beginning of next year. So many helped out while we were working to fix the leaks and get water restored to the city. Thanks to Kreuger Backhoe- Kenny, Tanner and Taylor, Kansas Rural Water Association- Brian Bowles, Wilson Telephone company- Zach Barta and Jason Leiker, Pierce Electronics- Henry and Daniel Pierce, Lincoln County Emergency Management- Jesse Knight, City of Sylvan Grove Fire Dept and Fire Chief Marc Lovin for getting the LED sign, Picking up the bottled water, and providing fire hose, Mayor Ryan Gier for volunteering countless hours, Karen and Adriaan Geustyn for delivering bottled water to residents and countless others in the community for your help and patience while we dealt with the water issues.

Boil Water Advisory has been rescinded by KDHE!

Boil Water Advisory Rescinded for City of Sylvan Grove, Lincoln County

TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has rescinded a boil water advisory for the City of Sylvan Grove, Lincoln County public water supply system located in Lincoln County. The advisory was issued because of a waterline break resulting in a loss of pressure in the distribution system. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.

Public water suppliers in Kansas take all measures necessary to notify customers quickly after a system failure or shutdown. Regardless of whether it’s the supplier or KDHE that announces a boil water advisory, KDHE will issue the rescind notice following testing at a certified laboratory.

Laboratory testing of drinking water samples collected from the City of Sylvan Grove indicate no evidence of bacteriological contamination and all other conditions that placed the system at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be resolved.

When a public water supply system experiences a disruption in service there are precautions that consumers may need to take during and after the incident.

Update: Water pressure should be returning! We are experiencing water issues again and are working to figure out what is causing the problem.

Water pumps have been turned back on, you will continue to have low pressure until the system is fully restored. Boil advisory is still in effect.

There is bottled water available at the firestation, those who have requested it, it will be getting delivered shortly.
