I'm proud to see North Carolina recognized by CNBC as having America's #1 Economy. This achievement reflects the hard work of our businesses, farmers, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and workers across every corner of our state—including right here in Western North Carolina.

A strong economy means more opportunities for families, continued investment in our communities, and a brighter future for the next generation. While there's always more work to do, this recognition is a reminder that North Carolina continues to be a great place to live, work, and do business.

Since being appointed, my focus has been simple: listen first. Jackson, Swain, and Transylvania counties, along with the Qualla Boundary, each have different needs, and it is not my place to assume I know what is best for every community.

Whether it is housing and healthcare concerns in Swain County, workforce and educational opportunities in Jackson County, or infrastructure growth in Transylvania County, my job is to be the conduit between what our communities tell me they need and the resources available through the NCGA.

Trust is earned through action, not promises. I am proud to keep showing up, keep listening, and keep working on behalf of this district I call home.

🇺🇸 I had a wonderful time celebrating Independence Day at Sylva’s 250th Celebration with so many friends, neighbors, and visitors!

One of my favorite helpers for the evening was Ladybird, who joined me as we announced the housekeeping reminders before the festivities began. I think it’s safe to say she stole the show! 🐞🐾

We also had the chance to spend some time with the talented members of Gotcha Groove—they put on a fantastic performance and kept the celebration going with great music all evening. 🎶

And, of course, I always enjoy catching up with my favorite political advisor, Grayson Mathis! It’s a pleasure to see Grayson and his family, and I appreciate his enthusiasm for our community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Sylva’s 250th celebration such a memorable Fourth of July. I’m grateful to represent a district filled with wonderful people and proud traditions.

Good news for North Carolina taxpayers: the House just passed the state budget, 88-21, and it's now headed to the Governor's desk for his signature.

This budget delivers real, practical wins for our district and communities across the state, from shorter DMV wait times to stronger safeguards against waste and fraud in state government. I was proud to support it, and I'll keep you updated as it moves forward.

The 2026 Appropriations Act:

✅Makes historic investments in public safety and education
✅Continues to lower taxes and does so in a responsible way
✅Protects taxpayer dollars by making targeted investments to crack down on waste, fraud, and abuse
✅Ensures North Carolinians keep more of their hard-earned money
✅Continues our commitment to Western NC by investing millions more in Helene recovery

This afternoon, the House gave initial approval to the state budget, 92 to 22. It's one more step in a long process, and there's still work ahead.

If it passes again tomorrow, it heads to the Governor's desk.
I'll keep you posted on where things stand for Jackson, Swain, Transylvania, and the Qualla Boundary.

Rep. Ferguson, along with others, sat down with the Asheville Citizen Times to talk about "Unrelenting," a new exhibit at the Museum of the Cherokee People exploring Cherokee history as America marks 250 years.

As the first member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians named to state leadership, she reflected on the community that shaped her path: "I am the product of my mother's accomplishments and my grandmother's accomplishments.

I am the descendant of every tribal elder who worked hard and pushed forward to make better lives for their children."

🏔️ Big news for Western North Carolina — state legislative leaders have finalized a new state budget agreement, with votes expected in the House and Senate this week.

This budget reflects priorities that matter to Jackson, Swain, and Transylvania counties and the Qualla Boundary: continued funding to support Hurricane Helene recovery, an average 8% raise for our teachers, real raises for law enforcement officers, and tax relief that keeps money in the pockets of working families.

There's still more work ahead as our region continues to rebuild, but this budget is a strong step forward — and I'm proud to support a plan that keeps our mountain communities top of mind.

It was a privilege to attend the 15th Annual Cherokee Indian Hospital Foundation Gala this weekend. Fifteen years in, this event keeps growing, and that's a credit to the people behind it.

Cherokee Indian Hospital does some of the most important work in our district, and the Gala is a great reminder of what's possible when leadership, planning, and community support all come together. Congratulations to the Foundation, its Board, and everyone who put this evening together.

Casey Cooper and his team continue to set the standard for healthcare in the Eastern Band, and that work doesn't happen without the support of Tribal leadership and a community that believes in investing in itself. It was good to see that commitment on full display.

I also appreciated the chance to spend the evening with colleagues from both sides of the aisle — Senator Corbin, Senator Mayfield, Representatives Turner, Ager, and Gillespie, and local leaders from across the region. Healthcare is one of those issues that brings people together, and this room proved it.

Congratulations on 15 years, Cherokee Indian Hospital Foundation. Here's to many more years of strengthening healthcare for the Eastern Band.
