B. B. Comer Memorial Library is excited to partner with our wonderful local businesses to bring families a fun Sidewalk Story experience—perfect for enjoying at your own pace. Pages from a featured children’s book are displayed in storefront windows so the story can be read right from the sidewalk.
Start your adventure at the library, then follow the pages along Broadway Avenue. The story route includes the library, the Sylacauga Board of Education, and the Sylacauga Municipal Complex. We hope this monthly activity inspires families to enjoy a walk downtown and explore our local shops and restaurants. Businesses love seeing children and their families stop to read their window displays!
When you’ve finished the story, stop back by the library to tell us about it, and children can pick up a small prize!

In this episode of The Library Connection, Youth Services Director Mandi Cantrell sits down with R.D. Morris, Director of Pharmaceutical Services at Coosa Valley Medical Center, for an insightful conversation on local healthcare resources and everyday medicine. R.D. shares an overview of the specialized services available right here at Coosa Valley, detailing how programs like the Apothecary, Specialty Pharmacy, and the convenient Meds-to-Beds initiative help ensure patients receive their necessary medications safely and without delay.

Throughout the interview, Mandi and R.D. unpack common questions many people have about their prescriptions and over-the-counter health products. They discuss the key differences between prescription and OTC drugs, explore the science behind why medications come in varying forms—such as pills, liquids, injections, creams, or inhalers—and explain what compounded drugs are and when they are needed. R.D. also sheds light on the precise calculations and factors pharmacists use to ensure every patient receives the correct dose for their specific health needs.

As always, a very special thank you to First Bank of Alabama for their generous sponsorship of The Library Connection and their continued dedication to supporting B. B. Comer Memorial Library and our community programming.
