Today, the county budget will be passed and will become effective on July 1st. This is my 8th and last budget as a county commissioner. In this budget, Carroll County Public Schools will receive $192 million, up from about $186 million last year. This is also up from $162 million which was the funding level the year I took office. In that year, two county commissioners fought very hard to reduce school funding because of declining enrollment. I fought harder and led the effort to steadily increase funding over the past 8 years.
