In 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation creating "National Correctional Officers' Week." In 1996, Congress officially changed the name of the week to National Correctional Officers and Employees Week. The first full week in May has since been a time to honor the work of correctional officers and correctional personnel nationwide. In honor of our fallen heroes, we pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community.
