REMINDER! NOTICE: PUBLIC HEARING - TONIGHT!
Swissvale Borough, in conjunction with TPD, Inc., will be holding a public hearing to solicit input from residents on where you perceive speeding is a problem in Swissvale. After the hearing, TPD will review all comments and determine where the worst speeding problems exist and develop a strategy for mitigating speeding in our neighborhoods with various traffic calming methods.
This is a great opportunity for those who are concerned with traffic safety and speeding to come forward and make your concerns known to the Borough and to our traffic consultant.

The public hearing will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in the Dickson STEAM Academy Cafeteria located at 7301 Schoyer Avenue in Swissvale. You may also submit written comments to [email protected] by September 9, 2026 if you are not available to attend the public hearing. All written comments will be given to the consultant for their review

This correspondence was sent to the Swissvale Borough Manager from Norfolk Southern Railroad on Friday, September 4, 2026. This is the most recent update that the Borough has received from Norfolk Southern:

"Good afternoon Greg,

Hope all is well. Wanted to provide an update on the construction of Washington Street in Swissvale.

As you know, we had significant downtime on this project after demolition began and we discovered that part of the bridge structure to remain framed into an existing building.

We have completed the re-design of the retaining wall in that corner (northwest side), and the material has shipped. Allison Park [contractor] is scheduled to begin installation of this wall next week, and they are currently scheduled to begin setting the new bridge in late October if they don’t have any delays. The schedule is currently showing completion late in Q1 of 2027.

After the issues with the northwest wall were discovered, we took the approach to replace a large portion of it to provide the community with a long-lasting and durable structure. Unfortunately, this came at the expense of some immediate project delays.

We appreciate the assistance from the Borough on the project and look forward to getting this completed.

Borough Offices will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, September 7th. Trash and Recycling will follow a One Day Delayed Schedule. There will be no Street Sweeping on Monday. The Sweeper will follow its regular schedule for the remainder of the week.
