Friday Favorite 🐾📚

A big thank you to Lone Star Learning Center of Sweetwater for inviting Officer Berrie and K9 Dasha to spend time with their students this week!

Officer Berrie and Dasha had the opportunity to read 'Dasha Speaks Up Against Bullying!' and talk with students about the importance of kindness, courage, and speaking up when something isn't right. After the story, each child got to meet Dasha and received a copy of the book to take home.

Children are never too young to start conversations about bullying, respect, and treating others with kindness. Dasha Speaks Up Against Bullying! has proven to be a wonderful tool for opening those discussions in a way that is engaging, age-appropriate, and memorable.

Thank you for allowing us to spend part of our day with your students. We always enjoy opportunities to connect with the youngest members of our community! 💙

Last week, the Sweetwater Police Department had the honor of hosting a tour for area homeschool students. The kids (and parents) got the chance to learn more about the police department, take part in some of our training, and even meet K9 Dasha and receive a copy of her book! We love hosting tours and connecting with our community. If you'd like to set up a tour, reach out to us by calling (325) 236-6686.

Today, on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The Sweetwater Police Department proudly remembers Lieutenant Monte Huckabee, End of Watch: November 3, 1979.

Lt. Huckabee lost his life while serving and protecting the Sweetwater community, and his sacrifice remains a lasting part of our department’s history. Though many years have passed, his dedication, courage, and service will never be forgotten.

Today, we also remember all fallen officers across our nation and the families and departments forever impacted by their loss.

Please join us in taking a moment to honor their memory and thank those who continue to serve.

This week, the Sweetwater Police Department joins agencies across the nation in recognizing National Police Week.

Police Week is a time to honor the men and women who serve their communities with courage, dedication, and sacrifice each day. It is also a time to remember the officers who gave their lives in the line of duty and the families, friends, and fellow officers who continue to carry their memory forward.

Law enforcement is more than a profession, it is a commitment to serve others, often in difficult and dangerous circumstances. We are grateful for the officers who continue to protect and serve the Sweetwater community with integrity and compassion.

Please join us this week in thanking the men and women behind the badge and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the Sweetwater Police Department received a report of a possible active shooter threat at Walmart. Officers responded immediately and secured the store and surrounding parking lot out of an abundance of caution. After a thorough search of the area, no credible threat was located, and the scene was determined to be safe. The investigation into the origin of the threat remains ongoing. We want to thank the Nolan County Sheriff's Office and Texas Department of Public Safety for their swift response in securing the area.
