It is with great sadness that I mourn the passing of Colonel Mike Carricarte, a true American hero, respected community leader, and dear friend.
As an Army Ranger and Green Beret who courageously served our nation during the Vietnam War, Colonel Carricarte exemplified honor, sacrifice, and patriotism. His commitment to service extended far beyond the battlefield, as he dedicated much of his life to mentoring future generations, supporting education, and strengthening our community through countless charitable and civic initiatives.
As a United States Marine and a lifelong advocate for our military, veterans, and those who have worn our nation’s uniform, I held Mike in the highest regard. He represented the very best of our armed forces and continued serving others long after his military career ended. Through the Carricarte Business, Leadership and Entrepreneurship Career Pathway at Christopher Columbus High School, his legacy of leadership and service will continue to inspire young people for years to come.
Miami has lost a remarkable man whose impact will be felt for generations. On behalf of the City of Sweetwater, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Carricarte family, his fellow veterans, and all who were blessed to know him.
May God grant him eternal rest, and may we always honor the example he set through his life of service, leadership, and love for our community.
Mayor Jose “Pepe” Diaz
