The students in the pottery and craft class recently learned to use the sewing machine to explore "drawing" with thread on top of monoprints. This lesson helped to reinforce knowledge of composition, line, shape, and color layering and will be applied to a larger book making project over the next few wells.

If you haven't heard much about this type of art, search for the artist Bisa Butler to see an example the students learned about in this class.

Who knew sewing could create such masterpieces!

🔰 MUSHS Comets had an exciting visit today as CARTI, our newest Academies pathway partner, shared details about the CARTI Discover Program — a free, week‑long summer experience designed for future healthcare professionals. ☄️

🩺 From June 1–5, selected students will explore 10 different medical career paths, shadow healthcare experts, and complete a capstone project that earns them a $1,000 scholarship held until graduation. With only 10 scholars accepted each year, students receive personalized guidance and hands‑on learning throughout the week. 🥼

📋 Representatives Ms. Katie Swearigen and Ms. Linda Jo Palmer met with students to answer questions and walk through the application process. This is an incredible opportunity for students interested in fields like medical engineering, pharmacy, surgical technology, radiation therapy, imaging, oncology nursing, and more.

Applications are due April 10. Students can apply online here: https://www.carti.com/discover/

🔰 Our AVID Comets were on the move yesterday as they explored Arkansas State University in Jonesboro! 🎓🐺
They toured the campus, learned about academic programs, and got a real feel for college life. Some of our concurrent credit students even received their official A‑State student IDs — a huge milestone on their path to college success! Proud of these future‑ready scholars. ☄️
