You may have noticed some new faces around our schools this year. Over the next several days, we’ll be introducing you to the members of our district security team and helping you get to know a little more about each of them.

First up is Mike, our security guard at Dieck Elementary.

Mike brings 27 years of law enforcement experience with Mt. Morris Township and is in his sixth year with Premier Security. Before coming to Swartz Creek, he worked as a security guard at Flushing Early Childhood Center and Flushing High School.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys hunting, fishing, spending time at his cabin and being with family.

And his favorite part of the job so far? “The little guys.” He’s enjoyed getting to know the students and staff at Dieck and becoming part of their school community.

Our Swartz Creek Schools community is saddened by the unexpected passing of LoriAnn Swarner at just 37 years old. Lori was a former Elms Elementary staff member, a wife, and a mother of three.

As her family faces an unimaginable loss, a GoFundMe has been created to help ease some of the financial burden in the days ahead.

Students in Mrs. Hoyt-Winans’ Anatomy & Physiology class at Swartz Creek High School kicked off the semester by creating posters showing what they currently know about the structures of the human body.

At the end of the semester, they’ll revisit their posters to see just how much their knowledge has grown. What a great way for students to make their own learning visible!

Mrs. Bohm’s second graders put their math skills to work last week with some M&M graphing! Students sorted their M&M’s by color, collected their data and created graphs to represent what they found.

Hands on learning + a little chocolate = a pretty fun way to practice math!

Fourth graders in Miss Huber and Mrs. Wolford’s classes kicked off the year with a “book tasting” to get excited about all the reading ahead!

Students sampled a variety of genres, including fiction, nonfiction, biographies, graphic novels and mysteries, getting a little taste of all the adventures waiting for them between the pages.

What a fun way to build excitement for a year full of reading, exploring and discovering new favorites! 📖🐉

HUZZAH! AUDITIONS ARE COMING!

Swartz Creek High School students — think Shakespeare is overrated? Love musicals? Want to dance, sing, act, build, paint, sew, run lights, or just be part of something ridiculously fun? Then Something Rotten! wants YOU!

Auditions are September 14th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Prepare 32 bars of a song from a musical (or about 1 minute), be ready to read a few scenes, and prepare yourself for a brief dance audition. New to theatre? Even better! We’d love to welcome new students interested in joining the cast, crew, or Drama Club.

The show runs November 20th - 22nd at the Swartz Creek Performing Arts Center.

⚠️ Something Rotten! is PG-13 due to mild language.
