Some things to note from this weeks Board meeting:

First, congratulations to Sophia Johnston for receiving the GFEC and GearUp2Lead Scholarship. She is a sophomore and already making strides towards her dreams.

Second, a thank you to Travis Smith and our tech department. They are not given the credit they deserve for helping to keep our entire district moving smoothly.

Third, there was some discussion of Gaines at the very end of the meeting. Last year I fought hard to keep Gaines open, which we accomplished, even adding an early learning program to the school. I’ve received emails with concerns and some very good questions. I do not have all of the answers right now, but I will say this at this time: I’ve made it clear that I have no problem with Gaines staying open as long as the school itself is in the black and as long as the general student population stays where it is or goes up.

One last note, as policy committee chairman, I’m asking for the general public to send their questions, thoughts, and concerns to me. If anyone wants to go through our policies and find something they wish to have discussed or looked at deeper, please send me your concerns at my email: [email protected].

Hello all,

I want to be better about posting on this page this year. There isn’t terribly much to post about last nights meeting, it was just an organizational meeting after all.

I would like to welcome our newest board members, Kim Winter, Andrea Fick, and Holly Jarvis.

I also want to take the time to thank the Board for electing me Vice President of the Board.

For any questions: comment, email me, or message me. I’ll give you the best answers I can.

Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of support or even push back to what I said tonight in relation to the K-6 mask mandate.

I am pro mask (and pro vaccine), however I’m against forcing anyone to do so especially when the statistics in this age group don’t support it.

Hello everyone. I have many things I could say but I will try to keep it short.

To our seniors, who are now alumni, congratulations. Myself, the rest of the board and the entire district is so proud of you all and can’t wait to see where you all go. It was an honor just being there. I’ll say it again: Congrats, congrats, congrats!

I received a question the other day and I think it would be good to elaborate further here.

Question: do you want to see more young people on the board?

Answer: Yes. I think it’s important to have a variety of opinions on the board and I think having the very recent experience, and current experience, of being in school - living through the policies enacted, truly is a great thing.

I was interviewed for today’s ITC, give it a watch! Thank you to the ITC team.

Today it was announced that Mr. Shawn Fitzgerald will be leaving SCCS and heading to another school district. Shawn was a tremendous teacher, coach, person, and friend. While I’m sad to see him go, I’m glad I got the opportunity to be his student and colleague. I wish him nothing but the best, and can’t wait to see where this takes him.
