Did you know Delaware County has dozens of citizen boards, covering everything from environmental protection to economic development, planning, human services, and more?

County Council is currently seeking applicants for the Drug and Alcohol Planning Commission, but that's just one of many opportunities for residents to get involved.

If you're interested in serving, you can see current openings and submit an application. Check back often, as openings change throughout the year.

Delaware County is looking to fill an opening on the Drug & Alcohol Planning Council. The board advises, reviews, evaluates, and recommends actions for Delaware County related to the delivery of alcohol and drug prevention, intervention, and treatment services.

The deadline to apply is Friday, August 21 and more information can be found at delcopa.gov/clerk/board-vacancies.

While the outcome wasn’t in my favor this time, I remain optimistic about the opportunities ahead. I am truly grateful for the love and support from my friends, both near and far. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a wonderful community and look forward to what comes next. I believe in the strength of this community, and I’m committed to advocating for its future.

This election cycle has been good for our community, as it’s allowing folks to see and understand the slating process and fully grasp the power a Democratic Committee member holds. Living in a community that is heavily democratic, hence the primary is the election, it’s a lot of power in the hands of a few. What are your thoughts on this process?

The Swarthmore Democratic Committee will be endorsing candidates for mayor and Borough Council members on February 11th, a process that my friends in politics are intimately acquainted with, although it remains a mystery to many. The Democratic Committee is a group of elected and appointed individuals who are committed to the principles of the Democratic Party and are responsible for representing the Party. Their responsibilities include deciding whether or not to endorse candidates, and depending on the outcome of this vote, potentially voting to endorse a candidate as the Democratic Party's favored choice.

Although noth­ing feels like a sure thing in today’s polit­ical land­scape, in the Demo­cratic strong­hold of Swarth­more, an endorse­ment from the Swarth­more Demo­cratic Com­mit­tee can almost guar­an­tee a win for can­did­ates on the local bal­lot....

I’m excited to announce that I’m running for Mayor of Swarthmore. I hope to represent a community that I love, a borough where my daughter is growing up, and one that has been a beacon of hope and resilience through times of uncertainty and divisivenes. But through it all, I’ve seen something stronger than the noise of national politics: the heart of our community. And that heart is what we need to protect, nurture, and grow.

Remembering MLK’s dream has not yet been realized.

Dr. King was a man of action.

He wouldn’t stand by silently as state legislatures across the country passed laws making it harder for our fellow Americans to vote — which 19 states did last year. He would have demanded change.

We can honor his legacy by taking action now to protect the sacred right to vote. The Senate must join the House and pass voting rights legislation.
