Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness shown in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call. We remember the law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, civilians, and countless others whose lives were lost or forever changed that day.

For those of us in the fire service, September 11 is a lasting reminder of what it means to serve to answer the call, to help others, and to stand together when our communities need us most.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their names, their courage, and their sacrifice.

Swansea Fire Dept Lieutenant Chris Hajder (left) and Firefighter Jonah Perry attended the New England Fire Chiefs' annual conference at Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. The pair was able to benefit from participating in many training sessions and opportunities including a Recruiting and Retention Seminar. The Swansea Fire companies are member-staffed by our dedicated volunteer firefighters. If you see these firefighters, please offer them appreciation and thanks. These dedicated volunteers represent the committee (less one) responsible for creating the 100th Anniversary events including the Firemen's Ball in May and our Family Fun weekend that concluded today.

We believe the year-long investment of these volunteer's time paid off well and reflected well on the department and all those who have served during our century of history.

Please be aware the Veterans Memorial Park is now closed to all through traffic. The roadway is reserved for vendors and pedestrians directly involved in setting up for today's event. Parking is available near the little league fields by entering from Route 6. No entry or parking is able to be accessed from Milford Road, with the exception of handicap parking which requires an approved placard. Please do not use the roadway as a cut through and respect the cones and barricades so we can keep everyone working safe.
