Please move over and pay attention! First Responders already have a dangerous job. Help protect them and allow them to return home safely.

**Press Release – Engine Co. 2 Struck by Motor Vehicle on Route 24**

During the early morning hours of June 2, Engine Co. 2 was operating at the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a State Police cruiser. While firefighters were working to secure the scene, Engine Co. 2 was positioned on the highway with all emergency warning lights activated to protect responders and the public.

Approximately 20 minutes later, and without warning, Engine Co. 2 was struck from behind by a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.

Fortunately, no firefighters were injured. However, Engine Co. 2 sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers first responders face every day while operating on our roadways. Firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, tow operators, and highway workers all depend on drivers to remain alert and obey Move Over laws.

Today, we were fortunate that no one was seriously injured or killed. The outcome could have been much different.

When approaching an emergency scene:

We are so excited to bring this pinnacle event to our community to celebrate 100 years of service by the Swansea Fire Dept and its hundreds of volunteer firefighters. There will be rides and amusements and plenty of great food thanks to PVD Food Trucks. Of course, we couldn't have done this without Baycoast Bank and our 100th Anniversary Committee. Thank you to our incredible 100th Anniversary Committee and the great corporate and individual sponsors of our Firemen's Ball last night. It was a fantastic affair that paid tribute to all our volunteer firefighters both past and present. Our department's history was proudly displayed and our guests scored some fantastic prizes from our silent auction and raffle tables. Get ready Town of Swansea, Massachusetts because there is more celebration to come. Next up our 100th Annivesary concert and family fun weekend July 10-12 at the Veterans Park. Thanks to Baycoast Bank that is our sponsor for an amazing drone show on that Saturday night.
