Today, the Swansboro Fire Department stands in remembrance of the true meaning behind Memorial Day. We pause to honor and never forget those brave men and women who answered the call of duty and never returned home. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy each day and the peace we rest under each night.

Freedom is not free, and today we remember the cost paid by generations of American heroes. We honor their courage, their service, and the families who continue to carry their legacy. May we never forget those who gave everything so that we may live in safety and freedom.

Effective Sunday morning at 8:00 AM, the burn ban for the Town of Swansboro will be lifted.

Thank you to everyone who followed the restrictions and did your part to keep our community safe. The recent rain has helped conditions, but it does not eliminate the risk.

As you return to outdoor burning, please remember:
• Always attend your fire—never leave it unattended
• Burn only natural debris (limbs, leaves, and brush)
• Keep a water source nearby and ready for immediate use
• Clear the area around your fire and maintain defensible space from structures
• Be mindful of changing conditions, especially high winds

Stay aware, stay prepared, and always be safe.

🐾🔥 Program Alert 🐾🔥

We’re proud to introduce the Shelby Program — an Emergency Veterinary Fund dedicated to helping animals rescued during fires and emergency incidents.

When pets are pulled from emergencies, they often need immediate medical care. The Shelby Program ensures there is a pathway to help cover that care, easing the burden on families already facing a crisis, in partnership with Swansboro Animal Hospital.

Named in honor of a loving and protective Sheltie, Shelby, the program reflects what this community does best—taking care of one another.

The fund is 100% donation-based and supports animals in need following emergency situations. Being one of the only Emergency Vets, this will be a regional initiative offering this care to other areas beyond Swansboro!

🔥Working Fire - K9 Rescue🔥

At approximately 9:52 PM, Swansboro Fire Department was dispatched on automatic aid for a reported residential fire.

Squad 17 arrived on scene to find heavy fire conditions showing from the front of a single-story, single-family dwelling. Crews quickly went to work, making the initial stretch and initiating an aggressive interior attack.

Onslow County Fire Rescue Engine 205 arrived shortly after, establishing a water supply to Squad 17 and providing additional personnel to support fire attack operations. Swansboro Car 1 assumed the command role.

Additional units arrived and assisted with search and overhaul. During the search, crews located the resident’s dog. Personnel from Onslow County EMS quickly deployed a pet oxygen mask, providing lifesaving care. The dog became more responsive on scene and was transported by Swansboro Police Department to Swansboro Animal Hospital, where she was stabilized.

Incidents like this highlight what it truly means to operate as one team. Strong coordination, rapid response, and shared commitment made a difference tonight.

Thank you to all agencies involved, including Onslow County Fire Rescue, Hubert Volunteer Fire Department, Western Carteret Fire and EMS, Camp Lejeune Fire and Emergency Services, Onslow County EMS, Swansboro Police Department, and Swansboro Animal Hospital!

A special recognition, especially during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, goes out to the voices behind the radio. Every call, every transmission, and every request is heard, tracked, and supported by professionals who ensure responder safety from start to finish. Their work does not go unnoticed. Thank you to every dispatcher with Onslow County E911, especially the crew helping tonight!!

One Team! One Fight!

‼️Personnel Recognition‼️

Join us in congratulating Firefighter Albano on successfully completing his New Recruit Task Book!

Today marked a full “check-off” of the skills, knowledge, and abilities required to succeed in this role and serve our citizens at the level they deserve. From hands-on evaluations to scenario-based operations, the process reflects the hard work, discipline, and commitment it takes to be a Swansboro Firefighter.

With this accomplishment, Firefighter Albano becomes the second member to complete this process under our newly established tradition, setting the tone for those who will follow.

A highlight of the day is the presentation of a new helmet shield. With that, he removes the yellow recruit shield and is officially recognized as a Swansboro Firefighter. It’s a proud moment and a meaningful rite of passage within our department.

The crew wrapped up the day the right way, by cooking a well-earned dinner of his choosing, taking time to celebrate the accomplishment together.

Firefighter Albano continues to prove himself as a valuable member of our agency, and we look forward to his continued growth and success.

Congratulations on this well deserved achievement!

💨🔥SMOKE ALERT💨🔥

Smoke has been visible across Swansboro and much of Northeastern Onslow County today.

Although we are currently under a statewide burn ban, along with local restrictions, the smoke in our area is the result of a recent fire on Marine Corps Installation Camp Lejeune. With current wind conditions, residual smoke is lingering and settling throughout the region.

There is no current fire or danger to the Town of Swansboro.

Drivers are encouraged to use caution, as visibility may be reduced in some areas; especially during the early morning and evening hours.

We appreciate everyone’s awareness.

❗️TRAINING ALERT ❗️

Strong partnerships make stronger responses. 💪🚒
Today, C-Shift personnel and Western Carteret Fire & Ems came together for a hands-on mutual aid training focused on deploying and repacking multiple handlines off each other’s apparatus. Crews had the opportunity to learn different setups, techniques, and approaches, building familiarity that makes a real difference when seconds count.
Training side by side not only sharpens skills, but strengthens communication and trust between departments. When the call comes, we’re not just working alongside each other, we’re working as one.

🚨🔥Working Fire & MVC-Double Entrapment 🔥🚨

The morning began with an automatic aid structure fire alongside Onslow County Fire Rescue. OCFR arrived to a working fire, making a quick knockdown on the fire. Swansboro Car 1 arrived and assumed a command role, while Squad 17 grabbed the water supply and initiated a primary search. The fire was marked under control quickly. Personnel from Camp Lejeune, Piney Green, and Hubert also responded, assisting with many other fire ground assignments.

Shortly after noon, crews were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving double entrapment. OCFR arrived finding a side rested vehicle, with occupants trapped. Upon arrival, Car 1 was assigned as Rescue Group Supervisor, while the Squad 17 crew worked alongside OCFR personnel to complete the extrication.

Both of these incidents, again, show the benefit of interoperability with all of the Northeast Onslow agencies. Strong work by all personnel involved today.

One Team! One Fight!
